  keypusher: Looking at Atkins' games here courtesy of <Phony Benoni>'s collection. I was startled by 24.Rxg5+, but an engine confirms that it wins readily enough after 24....Nxg5 25.Rg1 Qe7 26.h4 or 25....Re7 26.Rxg5+ Kh7 27.Bd6 Qe6 28.Bxe7 Qxe3+ 29.Kc2.

Atkins has an overwhelming position anyway -- the engine preferred 24.Qxa7.

Schwan was the only one of Atkins' opponents nationalistic enough to play the Dutch. But he also liked 1.f4, so maybe his choice is a matter of stubbornness rather than Dutch courage.

Stonehenge: Schwan was German, but there isn't much known about him.
Apr-06-13  IndigoViolet: A fish called Schwan....duuurrrrr!

As stonehenge pointed out, Schwan wasn't even Dutch. But Dirk Bleijkmans was, and he also played the Dutch against Atkins.
