JointheArmy: Beautiful. Mamedyarov should win this tournament.
Jul-17-10  Bridgeburner: The position after <48. Rcc1> is fairly level, but it gave Lê Quang Liêm the opportunity to go horribly wrong:

From here, <48...Rc4> (instead of the disastrous <48...Rg6>) would have held the line, and would have probably earned the young Vietnamese GM a well-deserved draw.

Jul-17-10  parisattack: Patent Mamedyarov - Ram the central pawns as quickly as possible, destroy the opponent's coordination and bring through the heavy pieces for the attack. Great game!
Jul-17-10  Bridgeburner: For example, if Black had played <48...Rc4>:

White's best is <49. Qf5+>(49. Qf3 Rac8 50. Rxc4 Rxc4 and Black's good).

If then <49...Kh8 50. Qd5> (50. Rxc4 Qxc4 51. Qe4 Qxe4+ 52. Re4 is harmless for Black as well), <50...Rac8> again looks good for Black:

All that's left for White is either:

i. <51. Qd7 Qa6 52. Rxc4 (<<52. Rcd1 Qxa3>>) 52...Qxc4 53. e7 (<<53. Qxa7 Qd5+ draws>>) Kh7> and Black holds

ii. <51. Rxc4 Rxc4 52. Qd7 Qc6+ (<<52...Rd4 53. Qxa4 Rxa4>> works for Black as well) 53. Qxc6 Rxc6> should draw easily.

Jul-18-10  badlooser: Excellent game! in such great form, Mamedyarov is going to win this tournament.

HeMateMe: Very nice. Most players would discount the idea of accepting doubled h pawns in a castled position. Often, it turns into target practice for one's opponent.
Jul-18-10  kdogphs: Heh, my amateur mind saw 34) Qxd3 but then I saw 34)... Qxd1+ and it doesn't look so good... But Mamedyarov is certainly showing shades of Petrosian and Karpov in his recent games.
Jul-20-10  Ulhumbrus: 12 Nh4! gains the bishop pair at the price of suffering a broken King side.

White suffers a broken King side in a position however where White threatens to exchange Queens and so to reduce the value of a broken White King side to Black.

The move 14...Nxc3 avoida exchanging Queens but also strengthens White's centre, and so Black can make little use of White's broken King side all the same.

Jul-22-10  ChessEscudero: Sweet revenge by Shak after losing to this guy last year.
