Nov-23-10  DanLanglois: Current main line:

Black can probably hold this. However, 34...Qd8 is a finesse. A whopping trap is if Black plays anything else. Happily, test your engine on this, it's a good trap.

As for the noise on the wire about 33...Bxf1, this again is not the engine move, although it does seem to present Black w/drawing chances.

The position is I believe understood well and has been explored if you want to go through the posts.

22. Rxa8 is my vote, although I do not claim that it wins.

Nov-23-10  DanLanglois: 33...Bxf1 is not disaster for us, 2 b clear. We didn't have a win anyways. It doesn't appear that 33...Bxf1 is best, we probably won't see it. The real suspense is over Black's 34th move.

imag: Hey I woke up and I am seeing 0.24 in top <RV> line! Is it a dream?

BTW great job guys, and thanks for the summary <jepflast>.

I have been working on Qa2 yesterday and concluded the following:

32.Qa2 Rxa3 33.Qxa3 <g6> ends up in the line where Black plays e5 and we respond d5. The line looks very good for White, except for one single line where Rybka finds 0.00 equality for Black. I would recommend this line if we had nothing better, because it makes Black force the draw or lose. But it seems that we now have better with 32.Rxa8!

So I am switching to 32.Rxa8.

Nov-23-10  bumble46: I voted for <32.Rxa8>.

morfishine: <OhioChessFan><That concerns me> <jepflast> <How can Rybka possibly miss something a great number of our analysts would see OTB?> Concerns me too, much like R not telling us <22.cxb> gives strong advantage white; But what the heck, finding a 'hole' in R's or H's or S-fish analysis isn't all negative; can only be a plus for us...unless its seen further and that it really is bad; talk about having to do our homework

  Tabanus: From RV <Section D: <32.Rxa8 Rxa8>

[+0.08] d=24 33.h4 Qa7 34.Qe4 Qa4 35.Qf4 Qb4 36.Qc7 Nf8 37.Bf1 Ra4 38.Qb7 Bxf1 39.Qxb4 Rxb4 40.Kxf1 Nd7 41.Ke2 Ra4 42.Nc2 Ra2>

This line is also interesting. Vote 32.Rxa8!

Nov-23-10  ossipossi: Back to page 811, I spotted <32.Qa2> OTB, before <31.Ra8> was played. Back to page 816 must confess I hurried to vote to get it analyzed by the team. The point is evitate occupation of a1 with a Rook, because <a1> is a bit poisoned square. Also it discourages <32.e5>. <Strategically> speaking, <e5> when played, releases tension: frees black, get rid of our <d4 weakness>. So <e5> looks better for white than for black! GMP will play <e5> only in favourable occasion, not if we can play <d5> which is good for us instead. Nc4 has some <famous Ng4> features, coffehouse tricks, do you not understand Ne3 is best place for Knight? Only move to compete with <32.Qa2> is <32.Rxa8>, yes we called for <31.Ra8>, then an engine does the rest. I shall knee before a well done engine analysis, by now I stick to <32.Qa2> (fond of)

morfishine: Switched to <32.Rxa8>. I think she doesn't think this is possible but it goes back to when we grabbed the a-file; I felt an objective was to exchange 1-pair of rooks which would improve whites position (or vice-versa make it harder for Black to cover everything). The intriguing thing here is we surrender the a-file, but can seize it back and meanwhile our position has improved. Great work guys

Tabanus: I feel bad about my behaviour the last days. Especially yesterday. How many did I manage to insult? I can think of Ceri, Domdaniel, addhitana, blue wave, AgentRgent, and RV. And probably Once, DPLeo, and lost in space. And all 25.Ng4 voters.

Anyone else? Apology to all.

Nov-23-10  Ceri: Hi, folks,

I got back late last night to find that Black is trying to make a game of it - some of the psychological themes discussed through the last couple of moves are, perhaps, surfacing.

Not having any time, I just let Houdini look at Black's options if we had played Nc4 - these may not be relevant now, but here they are for the record, at 31 ply:
