Kinghunt: That's if you want to count Anand's wins against Carlsen when he was only 14... But if you want a better picture of their current strengths, just look at their games in the last 18 months: +5 -0 =8 to Carlsen in all formats, with +1 -0 =3 to Carlsen in classical.

In this game, Anand was under a lot of pressure the entire time (he criticizes his move 21...a5 as unnecessarily creating weaknesses) so it's not really any huge surprise he eventually cracked and allowed 41. Bxh5!

tamar: 40...Ne7 is bad, but there is nothing better.

If 40...Nf6 41 Rb4 Rxe5 42 dxe5 Nd5 43 Rb3 Ne7 44 Bxh5!

Black cannot take the bishop because of Qh7+, and if 44...Qd5+ 45 Bf3 Qxe5 46 Rxb7 we almost have the game continuation when White wins by h5 and a direct attack on the King.

Sep-04-10  magikk: This is not a very spectacular game for those who can't appreciate it ,and it is for those who can.lol.
Sep-05-10  awdunno: You're right on the money, magikk. This is an extraordinary game considering the time controls. No wonder these guys can give small simuls against ordinary GMs and get a plus score. Well, Kasparov did, anyway:-)

Well, Kasparov did, anyway:-) No not even Kasparov can give a performace like this at such an age and against a supergiant like Anand. He was like the prey trying to escape the anaconda. So much pressure something has to give!!
