 | | offramp: The set up of queen and knight on the same diagonal as the opposing king, like after 15.Qxd4, is so powerful that it is worth almost anything to get it. |

 | | Phony Benoni: I doubt Koblents ever showed this game to his most famous student, Mikhail Tal. If Black concedes the exchange with <11...exc3 12.Bxd8 Qxd8>: click for larger viewDoes he have some chances? It's surely better than losing a whole piece. And while we're talking tactical devices, the b2-b4 "Desperado-Interposition" reminded me of Casas vs L Piazzini, 1952. |

 | | piltdown man: The pun would have made more sense if Kahn had lost. |

 | | offramp: What happens after 18...Kd7? |
|
Mar-25-14 | | morfishine: When a master is lost by move 12, then something went wrong with the opening. Cute finish, but overall poor game (especially by someone of Koblents stature) |
|
Mar-25-14 | | kevin86: KAHN! KAHN!- Captain James t Kirk. |
|
Mar-25-14 | | Travis Bickle: <kevin86> As far as the pun goes I don't think think Shocker Kahn is related to the Star Wars film titled 'The Wrath of Kahn'. I think it's about Chaka Khan a soul singer from Chicago who started out in a band named Rufus & then went solo. P.S. Also their was a song awhile back where part of the lyrics were repeating her name Chaka Kahn, Chaka kahn, Chaka Kahn... |
|
Mar-25-14 | | Once: Yup, I'm with Travis on the pun. Here's the multi-meedja version... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XV...
For the younger members of the audience, the revolving over-sized CDs at the beginning of the video are called "records" - a circular plastic device for adding clicks and hisses to music mostly sung by a human. Unlike CDs, which are devices for removing imperfections until we end up with music that mostly sounds as if it wasn't sung by a human. |

Mar-25-14 | | Mr Bigz: very nice FSR, you lead our puns no doubt. |

 | | Diademas: Just for accuracy:
"The Wrath of Kahn" is not a Star Wars episode, but a Star Trek movie. For all you non-nerds out there, this might seam like a minor thing but I assure you, the very fabric of the universe as we know it relies on this.If I know George Lucas right, and I think I do, this could spell the end of CG as we know it. Ps! "The Wrath of Kahn" would be a better pun.. |

 | | WannaBe: So, this pun is based upon a 70s TV show that later became 80s movies and then later became a hit song. Got it. |

Mar-26-14 | | Naderone: 19...b3+ 20. Kf1 Bc4+ 21. Kg1 g6xNh5, i don't see mate now, it seem to be good for black or not? |
|
Mar-26-14 | | Travis Bickle: <Diademas> Just for the record your right, The Wrath of Kahn was a *Star Trek movie not Star Wars... But as <Once> alluded to, was it a
record or a cd? ; P |
|
Mar-26-14 | | kevin86: I would like a little correction on my post and its responses. Chaka Kahn was a singer in the 70s and what the pun was really intended to be about. My response is based on the pun that Kahn is pronounced the same way as KHAN, Jim Kirk's rival in both an episode of Star Trek and Star Trek Pt.2 THE WRATH OF KHAN. |

If Khan is the name, with an h then an a,
Then the named human being a muslim he be.
But if ye h cometh after the a,
Then the name is a cognate of Cohen,
And he be a hebe he be LOL! |

 | | FSR: <Diademas: ... "The Wrath of Kahn" would be a better pun..> It's been done: Sultan Khan vs Capablanca, 1930. (Different spelling, but same pronunciation.) |
