White played <28.Kf2>. It seems unnatural to move the king backwards, so I'm speculating that White may have played 28.Kf3 instead. If that's true, the position with White to make his 38th move would be:

Making Black's last move <37...e4+>. I think that would explain nicely why White played 38.Ke3 instead of 38.Nxc5.
