Phony Benoni: OK, I'll just give the link. You can figure out how it relates to the game.

Sep-28-10  Elsinore: Bravo!!!!!! I love when black plays the Dutch defense, especially in this century. All we need to do is bring the Kings Gambit back and we'll be set!
Sep-28-10  fanofchess82: A good game in Dutch defence. @ Elsinore, you are right. The Dutch defence is an exciting game and can lead to sharp plays. I have used it in tournaments around 8 times and 6 of those times, this opening was a surprise weapon which simply confused my opponents who were waiting for a QGD or KID. I have satisfactory results of +4-2=2. And Kings Gambit - I am a die hard fan of the King's gambit. I have occasionally played it and have not got a good rate of success - but I believe that King's gambit and Dutch defences are very good opening lines with sharp variations possible from either side. I even enjoy the Bird's opening. Today the openings are highly focussed towards the Sicilian, French and QGD/KID, that a Dutch or King's gambit can successfully be used as a surprise weapon in tournament play also. Fischer might have claimed to have busted the King's gambit, but the gambit refuses to die. Long line these two openings.
Sep-28-10  eykca: Is this the game of the day due to black's unorthodox opening? Otherwise, this seemed like a bit of a lackluster outing.
Sep-28-10  Rook e2: If you want to play like they did back in the 19th century you might want to take a look at the Evans Gambit, one of my favourites.

WannaBe: Errrr... Technically either one of the player fits the qualification to have this game in the database...

Or I have forgotten the minimum requirement (rating) to have a game to be accepted by CG. =)

Move disk A to C, move Disk B to A, Move Disk C to A, repeat until complete, beginning/intermediate computer science recursive programming projet. =)

Sep-28-10  Once: <eykca> It could be GOTD because of the pun. Sometimes it's as simple as that.
Sep-28-10  Benzol: From the chessgames forum <<chessgames.com> There was an "E Tanoi" (or something like that) that we did merge--are you saying that "Toleafoa Tanoi" is the same person? We are always very careful combining names that might not be the same person, as it's much harder to unmerge than to merge. But if you say Toleafoa Tanoi is Edward Tanoi I'll take your word for it. And I just got an idea for a pun...>

Ah! Now I understand what you meant.

Sep-28-10  Underworld: <eykca> If you check out the Opening of the Day it is the Dutch as well, though not the same exactly. Probably why it is GOTD.
Sep-28-10  Elsinore: Rook e2: You're right. How could I forget about the Evans??!!!
Sep-28-10  kevin86: This game started with both players seeming blocking up the game. Reminds me of a hockey game when both teams send out the checking lines. It does pick up,but ironically ends in a draw.
Sep-28-10  melianis: Never ever exchange Knights to Bishops w/o opening lines in Dutch as white.
Sep-28-10  rapidcitychess: <Once> But usually a good game is chosen over a bad pun.
Sep-28-10  ounos: Ah, those towers were the door through which I appreciated the beauty of induction/recursion!

To move a pile of 1 disk, with towers (source, helper, target), move the disk directly from source to target.

To move a pile of N disks, with towers (source, helper, target):

1. Move N-1 disks with towers (source, target, helper)

2. Move 1 disk with towers (source, helper, target)

3. Move N-1 disks with towers (helper, source, target)

Thus, even if you are merely a simpleton who can only follow orders, you have attained the wisdom required to build towers at Hanoi!

Richard Taylor: Edward (Toleafoa) wasn't so happy with this game (he showed it to me at the time) but it is certainly interesting. Bob Gibbons is also a good player who I have played a lot. He was first = in that tournament. It seems white has chances in the middle game.
Sep-28-10  waustad: <Wanna>There are games from total fish here (even by my standards - I maxed out at 1742 USCF) because of the tournament they were in. Get over it.
