|Jan-24-12|| ||ClassZPlaya: Simple puzzle that's aesthetically pleasing because with one move it combines three recurring tactical themes found in Chess: PIN, FORK, and REMOVING the GUARD|
37. ... Bc5! (PINning the White Queen)
a) 38. Nxc5 REMOVEs the Knight GUARDING the White Queen allowing 38. ... Qxd4+ and 39. ... Qxc5
b) 38. Qxc5 sets up the FORK 38. ... Ne4+ again snaring the White Queen.
An inferior try that attempts to use these themes is:
38. ... Qxb3 (guard removed)
39. axb3 Bc5 (pin)
40. Qxc5 Ne4+ (fork)
41. Ke3 Nxc5
But now, despite being down a pawn, White has winning chances due to his passed pawn and better placed King.
|Jan-24-12|| ||chrisowen: LF traight away it was in would flat slant it nice in 37...elope |
across in lace clerical administer o go bin c5s too check horse
takes in nearly it qxd4 over and out thin picking lad value fork
it press in enter white then youre knackered.
|Jan-24-12|| ||psmith: This took me a while... too many possibilities. I was looking at Ne4+ and Bc5, but it took forever (well, it seemed like forever, probably 2 minutes) for me to put them in the right order. Seems I was not alone.|
|Jan-24-12|| ||Penguincw: I got it, but didn't have the reasons to back it up. :-\|

17 Bf4!? rebounds (White's extra pawn couldn't be held so could be given back by either 17.Nc3 or 17.Rc1). As the game went, Black seemed to be a solid Pawn up, but White managed to scramble it back. Fast forward to move 35:

The game continued 25.Qxf2. Defending this position may be easier starting 25 Kxf2 but the path to the draw is far from simple. One try is for White to give up the a Pawn to exchange off the minor pieces and try to hold the Q ending a Pawn down but with all Pawns on the same side. Enjoy exploring the possibilities!
|Jan-24-12|| ||stst: No direct kill, but the W Queen will be lost on Black N's check: purely positional (is it luck to get here?)
IF (A) 38.NxB QxQ
IF (B) 38.QxB Ne4+ forks, WQ also lost.
|Jan-24-12|| ||numbersguy70: Close to move 40. Be interesting to know what the time controls were and if white was in clock trouble.|
|Jan-24-12|| ||Nullifidian: 37... c5 and the queen is lost.
If 38. xc5, then the queen is unprotected, and if 38. xc5 then the fork 38... e4+ wins.
|Jan-26-12|| ||LIFE Master AJ: Great game ... the opening is very interesting.|
|Jan-26-12|| ||LIFE Master AJ: After 10 moves, there are not very many games played in the DB, none were played before the 1990's.|
|Jan-26-12|| ||LIFE Master AJ: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJwv...
I made a video of this game ...
|Jan-26-12|| ||Colonel Mortimer: Here's a wonderfully descriptive extract from this superb video. I must say I felt the ELO points surge within me upon hearing these words...|
<LMAJ> <...I decided what would I do I would go ahead and annotate and bring that to you. Also too, ummm, tzz, wh basically I'm gonna show you basically a fairly new opening system as well...>
|Jan-26-12|| ||TheFocus: Come on, <Colonel>.|
You surely must know that <AJ>'s fans - all three of them, eagerly await <AJ>'s umm...er...tzz...videos.
|Jan-26-12|| ||TheFocus: Word of advice to you, <AJ>.|
Spend less time making these cheesy videos and spend some quality time with your daughters.
They deserve it.
|Jan-26-12|| ||TheFocus: Seriously, do that, and no one will begrudge you of discontinuing the making of these... videos.|
|Jan-27-12|| ||LIFE Master AJ: Too bad, all the e-mails I have got have been positive ... but its OK, maybe you can learn that skill in kindergarden ... next year.|
|Jan-27-12|| ||LIFE Master AJ: Of course, you have to get permission to leave the "Special Education" classes first ...|
|Jan-27-12|| ||Colonel Mortimer: <all the e-mails> pick a number between 1 and 3.|
|Jan-27-12|| ||Everyone: I've sent them all to you.|
|Jan-27-12|| ||JoergWalter: with 6 views up to now, including <ColonelMortimer>, <TheFocus>, me and I guess the fabulous LIFEMaster himself doesn't leave much room for other viewers.|
|Jan-27-12|| ||Nemesistic: I also looked and thought it the most hilarious so far of the GC. (Goldsby collection)|
On one of AJ's webpages he brags/lies "By the age of 14 i was already one of the best salesmen in the state of Florida" neglecting to mention "But by the age of 53 i was a washed up,lying,disliked idiot without a pot to p#@s in".
|Jan-27-12|| ||JoergWalter: Mowing lawn at the age of 8, programming at the age of 12,
Florida's top salesman by 14 and at the same the great chess hope of the swamps.|
What unkind fate stopped <LMAJ> from being there with Bill Gates and Bobby Fischer while occasionally joining the "million dollar roundtable" of the successful salesmen?
One can only guess. maybe "A" for "Achilles"?
|Jan-27-12|| ||JoergWalter: <LIFE Master AJ: Thanks for the posts, I really enjoyed it. |
I will tell you a true story. When I was 12-14; (I don't remember exactly what year, early 1970's) ... I wrote a program, with an older fellow.
It was the FIRST program of its kind around here, it allowed the Escambia County to automate their check writing. (official pay-checks)
The fellow that I co-wrote it with, got all the money and all the recognition, I did all the programming work. It was my understanding that he got quite a bit of money, maybe thousands of dollars. (He gave my Mother a chunk of it, she would never tell me how much.)
I never saw a dime of it. I remember asking to go to a chess tournament (with maybe some of the money that I felt that I had earned) a few months later, and my Mom literally laughed in my face.
Contrary to what a lot of people think, I know a lot about hard work. My Dad and Mom got divorced when I was eight years old. I remember going out on a Saturday, working all day pushing a mower to make few bucks. When I first started, I had to reach up to grab the handles of the lawn-mower.
When I came home, I usally gave every cent of it to my Mother.
I think that's whats wrong with a lot of kids today, they have no clue of what really hard work is all about.>
