Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-13-10  checkmateyourmove: naka went hopscotch crazy at the end.
Nov-13-10  Marmot PFL: I am surprised this defense is not more popular. Shirov almost won with it yesterday and Gelfand had no problems today, although black has a cramped game for several moves.

Bishoprick: Gelfand is having a terrible tournament. Any reason for it, besides the quality of his opposition?

tamar: <Bishoprick> Gelfand may be tired from too much playing AND preparing.

Someone made the point in a different thread that having to know computer analysis puts a huge strain on the players not to caught out by prep.

In Gelfand's case, he is kind of a sitting duck, with his latest preferences known to other players by his having to show them in Grand Prix.

I think this was the hidden point of Magnus' objection to the champion waiting in the wings for a challenger. The challenger not only has to survive running the gauntlet, but all his games can be scrutinized while he has little to go on himself.

Nov-14-10  ganstaman: <checkmateyourmove: naka went hopscotch crazy at the end.>

He's had a lot of practice: Crafty vs Nakamura, 2007

Nov-14-10  checkmateyourmove: good point <tamar> , althought i agree with magnus's point on how its unfair. almost every champion has to go through the ringer to become world champ. such as playing under bad conditions or enemys territory or whatever reason. You still have to be able to fight even when conditions arent perfect to be a true champ. I am more disappointed in not being able to see magnus in candidates than angry . To me garry k. has to be behind this because any true chess teacher or friend would do anything in there power to convince there friend to not lose this oppportunity. but who knows
