HeMateMe: Must have been a time blunder. Black's 29th move allows white a tactical winner.

Dr. Funkenstein: Agreed HeMateMe, this will make a nice Tuesday puzzle at some point.
Jan-01-11  ozmikey: <HeHateMe> The second such time-trouble blunder from Godena at this tournament, probably, after the hanging knight against Vallejo-Pons.
Jan-02-11  Albertan: I have analyzed this game in great detail with the help of Deep Rybka 4,Chessbase 11, and Chessbase Megadatabase 2011, and posted this analysis to my blog using the program ChessViewer Deluxe. The direct link to this analysis is at: http://albertan1956.blogspot.com/20... I hope you drop by and play through the game, especially if you like tactical play and the Ruy Lopez opening.

Ulhumbrus: 11 Bg5! sets Black a difficult problem. Without his KB on the King side, it is difficult to unpin the N without disturbing the King side pawns by the moves ...h6 and ...g5, but this may pay too high a price for unpinning the N. An alternative to 11...h6 is 11...Qe7 with the plan of ...Nc6-d8-e6-f4-g6

19 d5 begins a plan of attack on the b5 pawn, a plan which succeeds in the end in winning a pawn on b5.

Jan-11-11  xanadu: Bg5 is also a strong pinning in the Berlin varation, because, as Ulhumbrus mentioned, the black king bishop cannot block it in e2.
