Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-25-11  BipolarFanatic: Good for Jan to get a result after 4 consecutive losses.
Jan-25-11  fisayo123: Ian rarely plays 1.d5.Maybe he tried to catch time-trouble addict Smeets off-guard?
Jan-25-11  Don Cossacks: Ian should opened with 1.e4.I hope he bounce back on the next rounds.

HeMateMe: white finally got his gambit pawn back on move 41, but then had to lose one elswehere. I guess things didn't go according to plan.

Really? I haven't seen any game with 1. d5

Troller: <Maybe he tried to catch time-trouble addict Smeets off-guard?> It did actually work for Nepom, Smeets got into heavy time trouble (again!), and Nepom even declined a repetition, probably thinking Smeets would blunder "as usual" when in time trouble.
Jan-27-11  DAVI DE RAFE: both were picking pawns.
none tried to defend any pawn.
strange game.
Feb-13-11  ReikiMaster: 19.Ne5 looks good. 22.Qxf5 looks drawish. 32.fxg5 may be better.
Apr-22-21  WorstPlayerEver: After move 40... Rf3, which is a blunder, Nepo underestimates Smeets and actually blunderfests the game way.

Position after 54... Rxe5

Here Nepo plays on for another 10 moves..... kinda silly.

In this position, stockfish says that Ke1 is much better than the move played here-Ke3 as Ke1 allows the knight to move out and exchange with the bishop. Of course, this line is not winning or drawing for white.

The game was lost for white on move 39-Na4
