Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-24-19  namesrue: Ugh, that was one bad bishop.
Sep-24-19  newzild: An instructive technical win by White.

  keypusher: I like the pun.
Sep-24-19  goodevans: Brilliant pun. That bishop was really bad indeed.

White seemed to make hard work of winning a won position. <54.Kd4> was a serious error. Given just how bad black's bishop was, white was lucky black missed the opportunity to reactivate it with <54...c5+>.

Sep-24-19  Cheapo by the Dozen: That rarity here: A true pun. :)
Sep-24-19  OldGeez76: I don't get the pun.
Sep-24-19  RandomVisitor: White could have won earlier with 41.a7.

Black had three chances to even out the game: 44...Ra3, 51...f6+, 54...c5+. Maybe even 56...Ke7.

Sep-24-19  RandomVisitor: After 38...Ba8

Black then forgets to move the Bishop until move 60, where he then moves the piece five times in a row, probably to make up for being cooped up for so long. By then it didn't matter.

OhioChessFan: I don't get the pun either. Is it a reference to Abbot and Costello?

As for the game, how in the world do you not play 54...c5+ in that position?

  Jimfromprovidence: Side puzzle.

If white had played 79 Bh7+, below, instead of the text 79 g6, does white still win?

Check It Out: I suppose the pun is based on an Abbot being the head of a monestary and a Bishop the head of a church.

  OhioChessFan: <Jfp> wild position there. The answer is no, White doesn't win. Black mirrors White's Bishop moves, daring Black to take. One example: 79...Kh8 80. Bg6 Be6 81. Bh7 Bf7 82. Bg6 Be6 83. Be8 Bf7 Ba4 Bb3 etc etc
