Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-05-11  Uhohspaghettio: Why did she agree to a draw?
Mar-05-11  wordfunph: <Uhohspag> black is slightly better and 1/2 is not that bad..
Mar-05-11  Uhohspaghettio: wordfunph, obviously you don't realize that Danielian was playing this in the final round of the Women's Grand Prix and she was trying to achieve first place ahead of Sebag and Koneru.
Mar-06-11  DAVI DE RAFE: some people are average, they dont have the urge to become winner
Mar-06-11  Uhohspaghettio: Okay, I found the answer, and it's no thanks to any of the idiots here.

The reason is because Stefanova is rated almost 100 points more than her, so maybe she was afraid she would win even though Stefanova had a disasterous tournament and ended up almost last.

I would still have pressed on for a win, because Humpy was also very likely to win her match. Maybe Danielian felt bad during the game or something.

Mar-06-11  unsound: Where did you find that answer? You point out yourself that it makes no sense logically. It seems a little more likely that she was content with a draw because it guaranteed at least a share of first, and she had no advantage on the board.
Mar-06-11  Uhohspaghettio: It did not "guarantee at least a share of first", first is not shared in this competition.

Where did I find that answer? From my own head, lol. I realized that Stefanova is rated significantly higher than her.

It does make sense logically that she was afraid she would lose if she was playing someone significantly more likely to win (according to rating). I said that before I realized that Stefanova was rated higher, as it's unusual that a player so far down in the tournament would have a higher rating than a top player.

There is no "share of first", she was hoping that Humpy with the Black pieces would slip up and also have to settle for a draw. She considered this her best chance of winning.
