Mar-15-11  YourNickname: I want discuss the move 40. Be2 Is 40. Bxf6 Kxf6 41. e5+ Bxe5 42. fxe5 not better. After Kxe5 Giri can not defend the g and h pawn. And after Kg7 white have a passed pawn.

Penguincw: Well,I think after 43.♗xg6 black can reply by playing 43...h4.After maybe 44.gxh4 black could play 44...♗g2 which wins to h pawn.If 45.h5 then 45...♗xh3 46.h6 ♔f6 47.♗e4 ♔f7 (see diagram below) and white can't promote the pawn.

Just looking at it now think black has 40..c4, just ignoring the bishop on f6 and attacking the the other bishop, whilst also vacating c5 for a bishop check, winning a peice.

Make that 50%.

Mar-15-11  bartonlaos: This rapid game is like a french fry. Their Tatasteel game was like an onion ring. You can't compare french fries with onion rings.

Penguincw: At least Carlsen played better than their previous encounter:Carlsen vs A Giri, 2011.

perfidious: <Penguincw> It wouldn't be terribly hard to play better than Carlsen did in their first meeting.
Apr-02-18  grant500: Of course it was drawn. It's Anish Giri!
