Penguincw: Another blunder!I'm starting to wonder, are these rapid or blindfold games.
Mar-17-11  fab4: 14.. g5? but black's postion is already difficult.Maybe 14..h5 or 14..Nd7. On the latter white can force a draw if desired but is better anyway.

I think 12...e6 is the mistake. weakens all the dark squares in the black position. Especially considering the alignment of the white queen and bishop on the h2/b8 diag.Alternatives.. 12..Be6 12..h5 12..Qa5

Mar-17-11  pulsar: A total demolition.
Mar-17-11  pulsar: Personally, I don't like 7...Bg4. It invites White central expansion and losses time with the Bishop.

12.Qh2 is crafty and original:

It takes control of the important dark squares while eyeing the g4-g5 push. If 12...Qb6 13.Bc7 Qb4 14.a3 Qb3 15.Bd3 White develops more pieces and Black's Queen is precariously situated.

14...g5 is the blunder, I think. Black did not anticipate the intermediate move 15.Bd6 when Qd8 16.hxg5 hxg5 17.Qxh8+ Bxh8 18.Rxh8+ Kd7 19.Rxd8+ is simply winning for Black. After 14...g5, Aronian was simply cruising for the full point.

An interesting move, typical of the wily GM is 25.g5

A nice puzzle. :)

Mar-17-11  fab4: <Pulsar>.. Blacks queen 'precariously situated' but there's no obvious way of taking advantage of this.Especially considering the position of the white king.

12..e6 was the mistake which let white in..14..g5 a blunder in an aleady creaky position. Both times h5 was playable tho.

Mar-17-11  pulsar: <fab4> In fact, I considered the 12...Qb6 line above better than what Black played. White is still for preference, I think, but it's not as bad as what transpired in the game.
