  Sally Simpson: Not too sure the Queen sortie was designed to steal a pawn. 7...Qb6 backs up d4 and tickles the b2 pawn which is also being x-rayed by the g7 Bishop.

Here Black was probably expecting 9.Ne2-c3 which stops the check and holds c4. Then Black has 9..Bd7 keeping the game alive.

After 9.Bd2 (Those backward moves! This one has tripped up Black.)
