Jan-04-12		Gilmoy: After <19..Rxa4> Black almost has the "dam me, ah know that" mate pattern: Q<somehow-to>a2+ would (force) mate. (Ergo, White probably must decline at least one Q-side pawn trade just to not-open Black's lines like this.) It's not a perfect Damiano because White has a flight square at c1, and a path through d2 after his Q (must-)move. <23.Rc1?> blocks his own path: now Black <does> have a true Damiano. <23..Qd8> is obligatory: Q-sees-a(+), establishing the Qa2# threat. <24.Nb3> denies Qa5(+), but also self-blocks b3 and the Kb2-c3-d2 scamper. <24..Qb6> is a plenty nasty Plan 1-A: White's ills remain, and the simple 25..Qa7 looms. (We don't even care about the hidden-double on b: Black has a bigger fishnet a-trawl.) White is probably lost already: he can't stop Qa7. I think <25.Qe3> Ra1+ right away doesn't work: 26.Nxa1 Qa6 27.Rc2! <White concedes the Na1, but prevents a later Qxb2+> Qa2+ 28.Kc1 Qxa1+ 29.Kd2 Qa5. It looks grim for White, but he can just return an exchange: 30.Rec1 Nxc2+ 31.Kxc2 Ba5+ 32.Kb1 Qb5 33.Qe2 and both sides look stuck: probably "only" a draw. The complications are enough to make Black shun the whole subtree: sit on hands, look for better.
