May-05-11  Billy Vaughan: Looks like Levon will get the full point.

Anatoly21: 41...a3 was desperate, but possibly necessary. But it is difficult to know where White should move the rook in response OTB.

Marmot PFL: If white plays Rd2-d5 and Nd3 the c-pawn will be able to advance. I don't like Grichuk's line much beginning with 10...b6
May-05-11  uscfratingmybyear: Loks hopeless, king invades c4 d5 coupled with the rook and kt spinging into action with threats on f7 while supporting the passed pawn.

Bobwhoosta: Looks like a win for Aronian.

tpstar: <chessgames.com> Thanks for the second broadcast. =)

RN vs RN can be tricky but White's advantage is decisive.

May-05-11  Knight13: Grischuk holding on tightly.... But all things that are tight are bound to loosen up eventually.

Kinghunt: Yes, white's position is likely objectively winning, but it will require considerable technique to convert. Even assuming no mistakes from Aronian, this game could go on for quite a while longer.
May-05-11  uscfratingmybyear: 46.Ktb4 looks tough, cutting off the rook and threatening kt to d5.

  chancho: Levon is playing fantastic.

Ulhumbrus: If White keeps his N on b4 defending the c6 pawn, it will take Black's N on e4 three moves to attack it.

Marmot PFL: Black got one pawn back so he can still fight with some chance to draw. 2 down would be hopeless.
May-05-11  turbo231: <chancho: Levon is playing fantastic.>

He has been playing extremely well for a while now.

Marmot PFL: WK can help both pawns so not much hope for black.

benjinathan: Black is dead now I think
May-05-11  uscfratingmybyear: 51.Ka5? Guessed the last 2, going for the trifecta.

Kinghunt: I agree. From here, the technique required should be relatively straightforward for a player like Aronian. No way Grischuk is getting out of this, especially seeing as he's approaching time trouble again.

haydn20: Black needs two pieces to stop the a pawn and two pieces to stop the c pawn. Unfortunately, he has only three pieces.

benjinathan: Rd2! That can't be right. Rd1 has to be better.

haydn20: Shipov says on Chess in Trans that Black has defensive chances after 49. Rd3 or Rd2, so that Aronian is playing with great precision.

  Wild Bill: <benjinathan>:

<54.Rd2> prevents Black from bringing his Rook to c2.

May-05-11  uscfratingmybyear: Rd2 protects the second rank and also gives black something else to think about since he has the option of attacking the rook with the kt which draws it away from the passers.
