tpstar: Deep Fritz once said, "Give me a Knight on f8 and I will mate Kramnik ..."

lost in space: Na4. Is there any reason to play the knight to a4? What do I miss?

Domdaniel: It's starting to remind me of the 1st round game in the last olympiad, Grischuk vs S Collins, 2010 -- Gris had all the space but failed to break through.
May-24-11  lostgalaxy: Maybe Qb2, eyeing e5 and supporting b5.
May-24-11  Chesschatology: The idea, as AdrianP said, is to get the Knight to d3 via b2. In the meantime, White has to play Qe2 to stop the ...e5 break.

outplayer: 18...Bc7 is a good move now.
May-24-11  JuliusDS: <Lost in space> The only reason I can see is to maneuvre it to d3 like some others have suggested. Then an idea might be f5 and Nf4. Although that looks less likely now the bishop has gone to c7...

  lost in space: thanks
May-24-11  AdrianP: Well that's the second sound comment I've made in one single game. This is a record...!

Domdaniel: <Chesscatology> - < Does anyone here actually read what other people say?> Yes.

Does everyone here actually read what other people say?

No.

May-24-11  AdrianP: If ...e5 is bad now (20. ...e5) it will be bad forever.

Ulhumbrus: <old coot: Some of us ONLY read what others have to say. That way we're never wrong.> What if you believe all of it?
May-24-11  AdrianP: OK, so Gelfand has settled for eating quiche for another few moves. Presumably, his next try will be to challenge the LSB with ...Be8 and ...Bg3. If White plays Bf1, the Bg3 will give Black a single good piece (which is better than none).
May-24-11  SketchQuark: To reroute the bishop and attack the knight on f3?

tamar: <JuliusDS: Why Rd8?> Because I pass is not allowed
May-24-11  madlydeeply: <Why Rd8?> exchange bad bishop via g6

technical draw: 21. Bf5 seems looks like a waste of time.

After he weakened it in move 3.

Ulhumbrus: White's Queen side pawn chain d4-c5 gives him a ready made plan in the form of the Queen side pawn advance b5, a4, a5 and a6 in addition to any threat upon Black's backward e6 pawn. Black will have to have an answer to this threat, if it can be called that.
