Ulhumbrus: White has greater space and a lead in development while Black has the bishop pair.

Ulhumbrus: White has more space and a lead in development. This suggests that Black has a difficult game to defend, if he can defend at all.

tpstar: 11 ... Bc7 is standard, retaining the Two Bishops = Opening Explorer

Anand wins the opening again and may look forward to a comfortable middlegame edge.

Ulhumbrus: A similar position was reached in some of the Alekhine - Capablanca 1927 match games.

Ulhumbrus: It seems that Anand is playing for a Queen side attack instead of for a King side attack with the pawn advances e3-e4 and e4-e5 as Alekhine played.

An Englishman: Good Morning: I'm a little surprised with 17...c5. It appears the game will be won or drawn depending upon who controls c6 and c7.

Jun-04-11  Marmot PFL: At least in this game Shirov remembered to castle, unlike the last 2.

Ulhumbrus: On 17..Qe7 18 Qb7 pins the N on d7 to Black's Queen but 18...Kf8 defends the Queen and on 19 Qe4 (attacking the point h7) 19...Kg8 defends it. On 17..Qe7 an alternative to 18 Qb7 is 19 e4 supporting the advance d4-d5 and on 19...cxd4 20 Nxd4 threatens the 21 Nc6 forking the Black Queen on e7 and the Black Rook on d8.

doublemint: Does Shirov have time for a Nb8, Nc6, Rd7 manouver

Domdaniel: The pin isn't serious. Probably a draw, given the flat pawn structure.

Ulhumbrus: The course which these games have taken suggests that at Kazan it might have been a good idea for the tiebreak games to have time controls similar to those of the present match. However in at least one respect I agree with Kramnik: the world championship should be decided by games played with classical time controls.
