 | | chancho: Looks awfully complex. |

 | | Ulhumbrus: Ulhumbrus: <lost in space:> If Nakamura is thinking of playing the N on h2 to g4, he may then think of playing the other Knight to f5 by the manoeuvre you indicated, Nb2-d1-e3-f5. So here is a conceivable plan: Qf3, Nh2-g4, Nb2-d1-e3-f5 |
 |
| Jun-17-11 | | BobCrisp: Nh2 has taken <Carlsen> out of his prep. ...h6 is a high class waiting move. |

 | | ketchuplover: Should white get his bishop to f1? tia |

 | | hoodrobin: <chancho: Looks awfully complex.> It's the Ruy-Lopez, darling.
:) |
 |
| Jun-17-11 | | BobCrisp: <Nakamura> doesn't have a clue. |

 | | hoodrobin: closed one! |

 | | Marmot PFL: suppose white N headed for f5 but will probably just be traded when it arrives |

 | | Ulhumbrus: <matey: My amateur eyes do not think that h3 can hurt Naka but ...h6 might be a weakening for Carlsen. Why do i get this impression and does anyone agree with me? Ulhumbrus can i have your comment since you have a sharp eye for weaknesses?> Here is one possible reason. White has more space, and so it is easier for him to attack the h6 pawn than it is easy for Black to attack the h3 pawn. At the very least White's King's Rook enjoys the use of the third rank while Black's R on on e8 cannot go to e6. To test this theory, suppose that in the present position we hand over White's advantage in space to Black by taking the d pawns which are placed on the squares d5 and d6 and placing then on d3 and d4 respectively. Now it is Black's Rook which can come to e6 and White's Rook which can't go to e3. |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | Ulhumbrus: My present forecast is that Nakamura will win. It is he who has more space on the King side and it is he who can attack there with greater ease. |
 |

 | | haydn20: Is the Nf1 eyeing e3-e5? Nh7 looks very cagey. |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | rogge: Let me disagree. Carlsen is quite good at shuffling pieces in these kind of positions. |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | Marmot PFL: Probably black wants to trade down with Bg5 so h6 is handy. |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | moronovich: One point in -Nh7 is the (zchec)Benonimove/manouver Bg5 exchanging the bad bishop in due time. |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | Ulhumbrus: White's Knights can form a phalanx by Nb2-d3 and Nf1-e3. Whether that is a correct choice is another matter. |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | moronovich: <Carlsen is quite good at shuffling pieces in these kind of positions.>
He plays them like a Grand Master ! -;) |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | Check It Out: Another plan for black could be Bh4, Qf6 pressurizing f2. |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | SteinitzLives: A whole lot of play left in this game, but Naka is out of the books or home prep, maybe Carlsen isn't. |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | Peligroso Patzer: <waustad: Where is Mateo these days?> Another estimable kibitzer who seems to have disappeared from the "Seen" is <Eyal>. Curiously, there is no “Last Scene” date given on his bio page: User: Eyal. |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | hoodrobin: IMVHO the closed Ruy-Lopez is where time and space are the same thing. Melted together. |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | moronovich: In these kind of positions the keysquares are f5/f4.Everything equal Naka should play Nd3 in due time. But it blocks the long diagonal(eying f5).So perhaps a tiny plus (from a practical point) to Magnus mainly due to better horsemangement ;). |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | Kinghunt: Interesting: the engines seem to slightly prefer black's position. Could Nakamura have bitten off more than he can chew? Once you give Carlsen an edge, there's no getting it back. |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | Check It Out: Carlsen banged Bg5 out fast after Naka's Ne3. A psychological battle going on here perhaps. Carlsen's in the lead. |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | Ulhumbrus: Because White has greater space, it is safer for him to advance his King side pawns whereas it is more dangerous for Black to advance his King side pawns. I don't know what the engines will say if White plays Kh2 and g3. |
