Domdaniel: Fascinating. When the engine eval is at +2.4, it's a draw. In actual winning lines it jumps to +4.4 or +6.9...

FSR: Is anyone alive out there, or did the Rapture occur just now, a little later than predicted?

FSR: OK, Domdaniel and I haven't been Raptured. That figures.

FSR: <Capt. Kirk> Nah, he eats the pawn with ...Rxg4, drawing I think.

FSR: OK, shows what I know. Obviously he's decided to go for perpetual instead.
Jun-17-11  kasp: if you click on live video feed, it shows that karjakin won on move 66.Ra2
Jun-17-11  kasp: ok.. now it's here,too :D

FSR: Well, that was a surprising denouement, to me at least. I want to see some analysis from someone who (unlike me) knows what was going on in that ending. I still don't understand why Black didn't play ...Rxg4.
Jun-17-11  Gordon1306: Well done Sergey!!

Ulhumbrus: It looks as if instead of taking the pawn by 62...Rxg4 Nisipeanu blundered by 62...Rgf1?? and on 63 Rd7+ was compelled to exchange a Rook

Domdaniel: I saw Rd6 played, then it got changed to Rc2, met by ...h5 and resignation? *Baffled*.

Gypsy: Ah, so 57.Rc6+ was winning after all. (I was abut to post that suggestion, when I got dragged away by life.)

Congrats to Karjakin. And Nisi certainly impressed by his performance.

Domdaniel: It seems that 65.Rc2 Ra7 66.Ra2, followed by 67.Ra5, is a win after all -- contrary to what I thought I knew about these endings. Either way, ...h5 is bizarre.
Jun-17-11  ajile: Why not 15..Qxb3 16.axb3 a6?
