virginmind: wow, Rxd4, but not that early nisi!

Domdaniel: Ulhumbrus anticipated a Rook offer.

Ulhumbrus: Was the exchange sacrifice 26 Rxd4 necessary? Nisipeanu was a pawn ahead and had the bishop pair. It was up to Carlsen to find compensation - if he could.

beenthere240: Without the exchange sac, the c pawn was attacked twice -- I think nisi now has no less than a draw with a winning chances.

  beenthere240: 30minutes for 12 moves -- I don't think that's a problem.

virginmind: i really dont think it was necessary. i'm not sure nisi can protect both those 2 advanced pawns - actually, only one. hopefully he calculated well enough...

  chancho: A 153 point difference.
Could there be an upset looming?

Kinghunt: Black is quite okay here. There will be no upset.

Ulhumbrus: <Domdaniel: Ulhumbrus anticipated a Rook offer.> I'm afraid not, I intended only for Qe2 to attack the b5 pawn, one whose defender might be displaced by the capture axb5

hoodrobin: 3 attacking 2 defending pieces, that's the point (perhaps)

virginmind: <Ulhumbrus> nah, he jockingly referred to your previous rethoric asking which is better placed (at that time/position) on e4 square, a knight or a rook? :)

beenthere240: Or maybe the other way around.

virginmind: <beenthere> no way, fritz 11 sees only a very light adv for white, practically equal. but its true this means white has clear compensation.

beenthere240: Okay, now I'm getting an even score. No one is toast.

Domdaniel: It's almost certainly a draw, IMO. Black could even exchange one pair of Rooks and give up the other Rook for White's dark square Bishop to reach a drawn ending. But that shouldn't be necessary.

*Maybe* Carlsen can squeeze something out of the extra Exchange, but I doubt it. Two Bishops are almost as good as R+B in these positions.

virginmind: looks quite a position in which both parties can fight - unfortunately for white it's exactly where carlsen has proven his class before. all i hope is they wont draw it soon.
