FSR: Young has won all the rest of his games (5-1), but his opponent really "Getz" him here. 7...d5 is I believe an innovation originally played by Kasparov, and Black has a big plus score with it. In 72 games, no one had played 8.Bxc6 before. Opening Explorer I think Black's supposed to play 9...Qxd5! 10.Rxe7 Be6 with compensation for the sacrificed pawn.

  benveniste: I'm not sure 9. ... Qxd5 works, since white has 10. Re5 as a response. I'd go with the boring 9. ... cxd5.

FSR: Hmm, good point - although after 9...cxd5 White can try to grab and hold the pawn with 10.dxc5.
Jun-25-11  Riverbeast: Isn't 24...Nxc4 just a blunder?

Why not just 24...Qc8?

FSR: <Riverbeast> That's surely better, though how long Black can hold with that monster knight on e6 is another story. After 24...Qc8, White plays 25.b3 intending Rad1 and Rd8+. 25...Nd7 intending ...Nf8 allows 26.Qxa7. If 25...Qb7, 26.Rad1 threatening Nd8.
Jun-25-11  TheBish: Alec Getz Young! Probably not good enough for Game of the Day submission. The pun, yes, but not the game!
