  doublemint: Maybe Carlsen is considering d5, if, exd5 then he can start to push his e and f pawns (connected and backed up with the queen) and if cxd5 then c4+ opens up some lines for black to attack. That would be exciting (perhaps unwise), but could bring some flare to this game.
