 | | Anatoly21: 43.Kd3 b5 44.g6 Rg2 might be enough for the draw. |
Jul-29-11
 | | Marmot PFL: <Anatoly21> not seeing a win, but there is room to go wrong. Still think black makes the fortress and holds. |
Jul-29-11
 | | WinKing: 42...Rb2 43.Kd3 b5 44.g6 Rg2 45.R8h7 R8xg6 46.Bxg6 Rxg6 47.Ra1 Kg8 48.Rd7 Rg7 |

| Jul-29-11 | | DrMAL: Domdaniel: i'm voting white's bishop on e4 for Pope! :-)
not sure if 43.Kf1 also works but most probably (simpler) |
Jul-29-11
 | | Marmot PFL: Didn't care for Be7, the white pawn just goes to g6 and c7 is unprotected. |
| Jul-29-11 | | DrMAL: with 43...Be7 either 44.g6 or 44.R1h5 definitely work nice game for Pono... |

 | | Domdaniel: <DrMAL> - < Domdaniel: i'm voting white's bishop on e4 for Pope! :-)>
Maybe's Nak's cleric on d6 can be vice-pope. It also protects two pawns, aims at something useful along the diagonals, and blockades an enemy pawn. It's just that bit less effective overall. I thought that Kf1 looked a good idea, though maybe Black has some play with ...Bc5. It gets the Rook to g2, but it doesn't seem to be enough to hold. |
| Jul-29-11 | | Everett: After Kf1, how does Pono stop both rooks coming off without dropping th g-pawn? And with both rooks off, how does he create chances with BOOC? |
Jul-29-11
 | | Domdaniel: No, he went the other way ... |
Jul-29-11
 | | Anatoly21: I really like 44.R1h5 after 43...Be7. Maybe 44...Rb4 has drawing chances, but assuming best play, I think white is winning. |
| Jul-29-11 | | DrMAL: had to wait for the smoke from my ears to clear in order to see how Kf1 works too...it was the better move (pretty sure) because it seems simpler |
Jul-29-11
 | | Marmot PFL: Forgot that Bf6 tempo Rh8. Now B always get back to g7 if needed then maybe pushing the b-pawn enough to draw (maybe not) |
Jul-29-11
 | | Anatoly21: Play 46.R1h5 Pono. Really, I think its a good idea. |

Jul-29-11
 | | Strongest Force: Double crooks on 7th ave? |
| Jul-29-11 | | Everett: Interesting how Pono's Kf1 has limited the scope of his Rh1, means no frontal attacks on c7. |
Jul-29-11
 | | plang: 45..Bg7 46 R1h5 looks awful for Black - what to do abot the threat of 47 Rf5+ and 48 Rf7? |
Jul-29-11
 | | Marmot PFL: Think this loses, black had to try Rg7 and trade rooks. Naka can hope that Kramnik also loses, which would overshadow his latest debacle. |
Jul-29-11
 | | watwinc: Bf5-e6 looks uncomfortable, too. |
Jul-29-11
 | | benveniste: xe5 and the rook dances, methinks. |
Jul-29-11
 | | chancho: Look at the photo... it looks like Naka is thinking: Oh no, not again! |
Jul-29-11
 | | watwinc: Black is trying to march the king down to mate white? |
| Jul-29-11 | | Everett: Is Naka looking for a swindle with Rg8-a8-a1? |
Jul-29-11
 | | Gregor Samsa Mendel: This is starting to look ugly. 49 Rc6+ and it's curtains. |
Jul-29-11
 | | WinKing: <Marmot PFL: Think this loses, black had to try Rg7...> Yes 43...Rg7 was his only chance 43...Be7 loses. |
