Ulhumbrus: Does the exchange 21...Bxd4 lead to a technical draw or a technical win for White? White's King side pawn majority has not yet lost all of its value. My present guess is that it will draw with best play, but may lose if Black makes a mistake somewhere.

beenthere240: White's winning chances depend on the pawn structure staying intact until all the pieces are gone.

lost in space: With BOC and the chance for Black to play Rd8 I see no way for White to win this

beenthere240: Queenside pawn moves don't help black because white's 3 pawns can stop the 4. All of the people who were hoping for an e6 were wanting Anand to throw away his only chance of winning -- in fact the e5 pawn was the whole point hind the first few moves.
Sep-26-11  theodor: draw!

Not 100% sure, but I think Black would like to activate his last passive piece by playing Rd8 with =

Ulhumbrus: Perhaps Anand thinks that he risks little by playing to win

luzhin: The King and Pawn ending would be a win for white: unfortunately there is no way he can ever force the exchange of his bishop for black's -- the wrong color!

beenthere240: now white can force a passed pawn. It may not be enough to win, but he can torture young Magnus for quite a while.

Ulhumbrus: Anand has managed to keep Black's QB out of the square f5.

Ulhumbrus: Perhaps Anand considers the ending to be a technical draw.

TheFocus: Boring from move 8 to 28. They could have agreed to the draw after the exchange.

I needed a nap afterwards.

HeMateMe: I know what happenned. Just before the game, Anand was doing his impersonations of Monty Python characters, and they both started lauging so hard that they decided to play a drawish Ruy.

I agree, but Anand played White ;)

Wasn't it Kramnik who said that playing the Berlin against Carlsen is suicide?

Sep-27-11  xanadu: Sorry: I agree with Ulhumbrus. At a lower player´s level this opening is not easy to hold for Black. At Carlsen´s level he surelly finds the perfect defense. In any case, a draw with Black versus Anand is a good result for Magnus.
