Phony Benoni: In the Russian (Petroff), Black will sometimes attempt a symmetrical set-up. However, there are limits to the efficacy of this idea, and castling queenside here appears to be one of them.

FSR: Maybe Black should have been more coy about where he was going to put his king, e.g. with 12...a6. Hmm, Houdini 3 gives 12...0-0 as +.31 and 12...a6 as +.39. As for 12...0-0-0, Houdini gives 13.Bb5! Bf6 14.Ne4 a6 15.Ba4 b5 16.Bb3 as +.90. It doesn't like Mednis' 13.Qa4 as much, recommending 13...Bf6 (+.54), letting White win a pawn with 14.Bxa7 Bxc3 15.bxc3 Nxa7 16.Qxa7 c6 if he wishes. Stevens' 13...Kb8??, OTOH, loses horribly to 14.Ne5 (+9.0) or even 14.Bb5 (+3.25).
