Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-19-11  voyager39: Excellent defense by Anand against his old nemesis. I think he is gradually getting a hang of Aronian's style.
Nov-19-11  DAVI DE RAFE: world championship finalil aaroniananenkil, anandinte champion pattam therichene.
Nov-19-11  WiseWizard: Classic game.
Nov-19-11  wordfunph: "Even this endgame I'm not completely sure is draw but of course it is very difficult technically for white. In the end I thought white was really pushing his luck but because I couldn't calculate anything more than two or three lines I decided to just take the draw."

Nov-19-11  coolchess1: This is a very good game.

Well defended by World Champion. I think in the future games, the WC will get a handle on Aronian. Just a matter of winning one game against Aronian to turn the tide. WC is certainly capable of this and I hope soon that time comes.

Nov-20-11  serenpidity.ejd: Was there a chance that Aronian could promote the a-pawn? The black horse was too far to help. Any expert out there? Any analysis is welcome.Thanks.
Nov-20-11  harish22: I wonder about two things ? why did anand give the b pawn in the first place. 22 Rab8 looks fine. But it may be a little passive compared to anand's defense. secondly why did he not setup a blockade on c5 with this knight. aronian was worried about that blockade and hence quickly pushed c5 with a tempo. This means that Anand has seen the draw as early as 20 th move before surrendering the pawn. His active defense of activating the rook worked.
Nov-20-11  nolanryan: aronian decided to let anand off easy. very sporting of him to leave crumbs to anand like that.
Nov-20-11  serenpidity.ejd: I get it. White has no chance of promoting the a-pawn.
Nov-20-11  bronkenstein: <harish22> hopefully this helps : <22...Bc6 "I thought I can play 22... Be8 but you don't make such moves with a lot of pleasure." (Anand) 23. Nxc6 bxc6 24. Qxc6 Rac8 25. Umm... Anand defeated Kasparov two times at age 21 and then got his head handed to him for the rest of Kasparov's career.

One never knows how match-ups take shape.

Nov-20-11  anandrulez: Mark Crowther in his TWIC report on this round says http://www.chess.co.uk/twic/chessne... Anand was lost and Aronian let him off the hook . I doubt this is true though a Aronian practically was facing a fortress of sorts .
Nov-20-11  voyager39: <Everett> The start point is qualifying for a match-up. Then you try to win.

If someone can't even qualify, there is no point speculating further.

Nov-20-11  voyager39: <anandrulez> One has to take into account that Mark Crowther is not Shipov. He is merely trying to do his best with the limited intelligence (and engines) that God has bestowed upon him.
Nov-20-11  anandrulez: lol Voyager . When Mark used such strong words I thought he knew it already more than Houdini did - so had to correct him ! Vishy himself had suspicions about the position , but never saw anything clear hence opted for the sac. Polarmis btw in his whychess.org report gives a more neutral and correct report on the game .
Nov-20-11  bronkenstein: IIRC Aronian had winning plan @ one point , according to Shipov (some deep nuance , in the end of some lines that they could opt for in time trouble , white LSB ends on a1-h8 diagonal which is essential) . But that was split second really.
Nov-20-11  Everett: Nov-20-11    <voyager39: <Everett> The start point is qualifying for a match-up. Then you try to win. If someone can't even qualify, there is no point speculating further.>

I find your precise point impossible to divine.

Nov-20-11  Everett: Wow, there is a whole undiscovered labyrinth in these Bf4 lines, and Aronian seems to be the chief spelunker.
