SteinitzLives: Now it's drawn, official, white took the wrong pawn.

SteinitzLives: Carlsen falls for a perp! No progress for him today, might even get moved out of his tie for first place.
Nov-24-11  MindCtrol9: Carlsen is winning now.He has a pass pawn on the QS and can attack the <c pawn> with three pieces where brings the advantage. If this pawn can not be defended,Nepo must lose.

lost in space: It is offical now. Draw by perp.
Nov-24-11  MindCtrol9: I did not see the last moves.

SteinitzLives: A handy rook sac by Nepo. Carlsen missed 35. Rxc6 and then holding on to the extra pawn and trading rooks into a viably winning chance-Q & P endgame.

Naka has drawn too.

Nov-24-11  MindCtrol9: No more games left to wash today?

SteinitzLives: Bring on Aronian vs. Svidlar, it's the best game likely to have a decisive result, with Aronian taking the tourney lead if he wins!
Nov-24-11  MindCtrol9: <StinitzLives> When I saw the capture of the <a pawn> I soght it was wrong,Carlsen had the advantage and he did not have to be in any hurry to do that.

Ulhumbrus: Nepomniachtchi did very well to defend successfully against Carlsen this favourable version of the Maroczy bind with white squared bishops exchsnged. If the pawn moves 10 h3, 12 a4 and 13 b3 give Black time to demolish the bind by 13...e6 and 14...d5, this suggests spending the three tempi spent on the pawn moves upon development instead eg by the moves Qd2, Rfd1 or Nb3.
Nov-24-11  kia0708: SteinitzLives, your comments are almost as entertaining as Shipov's commentaries
Nov-24-11  ughaibu: Why on earth didn't he play 38.Rc6?

Please re-classify this game <Grunfeld, Grunfeld Gambit (D83)> That's utter nonsense!

harrylime: Gotta say after 18.Ne4 you fear for black's future. Impressed with Nepo's moves immediately thereafter regarding the dark squares..

harrylime: Something missing from Carlsen's play in this game IMO.. Some extra spark ..
Nov-24-11  Eurotrash: <ughaibu> This is from Carlsens blog: "I had the choice between taking on a5 or c6. The latter would at best give me a rook ending a pawn up (that he most probably would be able to draw), and I went for Rxa5 instead having missed his immediate combinational counterplay yielding a perpetual check."

wordfunph: "So obviously this isn't the most ambitious try against this but it is not 100% harmless either."

interesting to note that Magnus said that he was not aware of the draw by perpetual by black when he made 35.Rxe5

<19. Rf3

Rook on f3 is well placed because <<<it protects the pawn b3>>> and can be easy <<<doubled on the 3rd rank>>>.>
