 | | sevenseaman: The game shows a lot of promise from Levon; in line as a strong WC contender. A very timely move to the top.
42. Qxh4 at the cost of piece and 54. Qxf6 to kill all possibility of a perpetual are perceptive moves that elicit much respect. |

| Nov-25-11 | | arsen387: Aronian on after-the-game press conference said that if 24... b6 then he calculated and was going to play the Q sac 25. Qxd6 Rxd6 26. bxc6 Rd8 (26... Qc7 27. Nb4 Rxd1+ 28. Rxd1 Bf8 29. Rd7 Qc8 30. Bh4 ) 27. c7 Rc8 28. Nxe5 Rxc7 29. Rxc7 Qxc7 30. | | Ulhumbrus: After 42 Qxh4!! Qxc3 the point of 43 g4+! is that it forces black's King on to the long diagonal a1-h8 by 43...Ke5 so that the skewer check 44 Qh8+ comes with tempo. On 44...f5 White's Queen makes use of the tempo gained to play the fork 45 Qb8+ attacking both Black's King and the b7 pawn. Moreover 45...Kd5 is forced and the black King has to walk into a second check on the other long diagonal h1-a8, whereupon 46 Qxb7+ comes with check and so gains a second tempo in addition to the b7 pawn. On 46...Qc6 47 Qb8! Nxc5 48 Qg8+ delivers a second fork this time against the black King on d5 and the g6 pawn. On 48...Qe6 49 Qxg6 the combination is over. In addition to the strong b7 pawn which ties up Black's N White has a passed h pawn which is ready to run and which wins the game. Quite a sequence! A candidate for a brilliancy prize, if ever there was one. |

 | | Ulhumbrus: After 47 Qb8 is the move 47...Nc5 really forced? Suppose that Black tries 47...Qc1+. On 47...Qc1+ 48 Kg2 Qd1 49 b7 Qf3+ we have a draw. On 47...Qc1+ 48 Kh2 Qf1 49 b7 Qxf2+ we have a draw. If White tries Qg3, the black N may come to g5 and f3 eg 47...Qc1+ 48 Kg2 Qd1 49 Qg3 Ng5 50 b7 Nf3 or 47...Qc1+ 48 Kh2 Qf1 49 Qg3 Ng5 50 b7 Nf3+ |

 | | haydn20: 47...Qc1+ 48. Kg2 Qd1 49. Qa8+! Kc5 50. Qc8+ Kb4 51. b7 and White can hide from the cks now. |

| Nov-25-11 | | Penguincw: A lot of queen maneuvring. Out of 54 moves played in this game, 26 had some kind of queen move. Nearly half. |
| Nov-25-11 | | WiseWizard: Relentless problem setting from Aronian. Model play. |
| Nov-25-11 | | James Bowman: If Carlsen is Capablanca then Aronian was Lasker in this game. |

 | | al wazir: How does white win after 49...f5 ? If 50. Qxe6+ Kxe6 51. g5 Kf7 52. h4 Kg6, I think black's chances of promoting are just as good as white's. |
| Nov-26-11 | | rilkefan: <<al wazir>: How does white win after 49...f5 ?> My first reaction is 50.gxf5. Something like 50.gxf5 Qxg6+ 51.fxg6 Ke5 - oops, Ke6 52.h4 Kf6 53.h5 Kg7 54.f4. |

 | | HeMateMe: That Knight sac was very sexy. Best game of the tournament. I don't understand the pun--what is "conditioner" referring to? I prefer something like <Brincks Job> |
| Nov-26-11 | | leonie: I am asking myself when will I understand what is happening in this game? Hopefully, a nice YT video will come out soon. |
| Nov-26-11 | | AnalyzeThis: Wow, this opening is as old as the hills. The folks in AVRO 1938 would have been up to date in this system. |
| Nov-26-11 | | Penguincw: White's passed h pawn and the white's king safety of checks wins it for white. |
| Nov-26-11 | | rilkefan: <I don't understand the pun--what is "conditioner" referring to?> It's from his first name - "Leave-on conditioner". |

 | | Ulhumbrus: <haydn20: 47...Qc1+ 48. Kg2 Qd1 49. Qa8+! Kc5 50. Qc8+ Kb4 51. b7 and White can hide from the cks now.> Thx. I think I understand. The point of the check 49 Qa8+!! is to force the black king on to a square which after b7 the b pawn threatens to check after its coronation. Thus after 51...Qf3+ 52 Kg1 Qd1+ 53 Kh2! and with Black's king on the b file, the b pawn is about to queen with check. I am reassured of my former opinion again. This game is a candidate for a brilliancy prize. |
