Strongest Force: So far both are ultra careful...will probably try to beat each others brains out in endgame

Aside of 8. 0-0 and 8. h3 the move <8. Nf1> deserves attention due to its highest winning percentage.

plang: < Nakamura has copied the opening defence which Carlsen employed against McShane >

McShane - Carlsen was a Ruy Lopez.

That's why he is a World Title Contender, and I'm just a WannaBe. =)

technical draw: Good morning, ladies and germs. This game looks like the first game I ever played. Good old Guioco Piano, I won a lot of games with it (as white).

WannaBe: A little bit surprised, that not one game in the database at CG have 11. Bxe6 and give black doubled e-pawns.

Anyone see a reason for that?

JeffCaruso: <WannaBe: A little bit surprised, that not one game in the database at CG have 11. Bxe6 and give black doubled e-pawns. Anyone see a reason for that?> Doubled pawns aren't always purely bad. In this case 11. Bxe6 fxe6 would strengthen Black's center and open a line for his R.

  Stonehenge: <WannaBe> Here's a game with 11. Bxe6:

http://www.365chess.com/game.php?gi...

Of course 12. Qb3 Qd7 13. Qxb7? doesn't win a pawn because of ...Rfb8 and white loses his queen.

Black gets an open f-file, an extra center pawn and the doubled pawn controls d5 so White tends to avoid it.

Dec-05-11  Thrajin: <WannaBe>,though black has doubled pawns, he has strong pawns in the center and an open file for his rook.

WannaBe: I see it now, with the B on a7 and possibly (if) open f, black can really focus on f2.

Marmot PFL: This is a rather slow line of the Italian that seemed to catch on after one of the Karpov-Korchnoi matches.

  WannaBe: 12. Be3 is the novelty! =)
