luzhin: The mating combination beginning with 34.e5!! is gorgeous.
Dec-25-11  qqdos: <Luzhin> Yes, a Christmas treat! After 34.e5! Black had to move his Queen - best 34...Qa8. Also taking the WQ with 35...Bxh3?? was greedy, setting up the mate - best 35...Bxf6. Thanx!

It is gorgeous. Not sure why black played on though.

achieve: <Penguin> Huh, are you serious?

If Pijpers hadn't "played on" (close to 1st TC as well btw) the combination wouldn't have seen the light of day, been aborted in its embryonic state. Deny Baby Jesus to rise from the water on Christmas Eve?

But really, do you play OTB? Even if you don't actively you ought to know it's so not done to not allow your opponent to show a combination like that if you're even half a good sport.

That is provided you even saw it coming; but abort it with only one or two moves to mate...? Either way, kudos to Pijper as well as Rapport here.
