Check It Out: That Ruy Lopez still has some tooth in it!

andrewjsacks: It was not the Ruy, but the superior play later.

tamar: No one expects the Spanish Inquisition.
Dec-30-11  Penguincw: Nice mate. Two black wins today, but Ivanchuk does not seem to want to be the third victim.

hoodrobin: <andrewjsacks: It was not the Ruy> I agree, Morozevich had no plan!
Dec-30-11  kamalakanta: Wow....I really like Ivanchuk's technique. I enjoyed the way he made the Knight on f4 look ridiculous, with h4 and g3...and the finish to this game was spectacular. He really took the Black position apart!
Dec-30-11  Robwilly: does 37. ... Nd4 save black? if 38. Qe4, then 38. ... Qf3.

tamar: Very disciplined game by Ivanchuk.

After 27...Rf7 the fork 28 Nb6 looked tempting, but Chuky chose the plan 28 Nh2 with the idea Ng4, and his Kside pressure finally paid off.

Dec-31-11  Jamboree: Never EVER count out Ivanchuk.

Morozevich has recently been on a roll beating everyone in sight, and was leading this tournament, and here he comes up against a cranky old man - and Ivanchuk just mows him down.

Chuckie's been doing this for 25 years and shows no sign of running out of steam. He will soon replace Korchnoi and Keres as the greatest player never to become World Champion. 42 years old and storming the 2800 club. Unreal!

Dec-31-11  kia0708: Ivanchuk's beautiful attacking end game.
Dec-31-11  ozmikey: A pure mate! Very nice.
Dec-31-11  Jack Bauer: I am from the Alamo: we fight to the bitter end!
Jan-01-12  arp001: 35... Qxc3(not the best of moves). Better was Ng7(if Nc7?? then Rb8+,Rxb8,Qxe5+!,Bxe5,Rxb8+,Rf8,Rxf8#) According to Rybka, the position after 35...Ng7 is (0.0).. even though black is a piece up, black will be forced to give up a piece because of the strong kingside attack by white..After 35.. Qxc3, white has regained the piece, and maintains pressure in the center and on the kingside as black as many weak pawns.

  hoodrobin: Thank you <andrewjsacks> !
Jan-10-12  Penguincw: 27.Bh6 is a nice way to get the bishop started. It only moves once more in this game, but with mate.

Mar-02-12  Penguincw: Oops. I didn't mean <checkmate>. I meant more like without the loss a tempo.
Mar-20-13  Whitehat1963: Sunday puzzle after 44...Nd4.
