WannaBe: So typical of Chucky, burning his clock on the first 20 moves.

hoodrobin: <WannaBe> It is positional, sort of.

Ulhumbrus: White has a persistent potential threat of a4, turning Black's Queen side into a target

Ulhumbrus: I am off for now. It will be interesting to see whether Ivanchuk begins a queen side attack by means of the pawn advance a4.
Jan-21-12  MindCtrol9: looks now more like a draw.

Strongest Force: I guess its not too early to predict a draw is it?

Sokrates: No, I'd say, both of them would have to make serious mistakes to tip the balance now, so drawn in a minute, I assume.
Jan-21-12  MindCtrol9: if i am not mistaken,this must be a draw.

WannaBe: Equal pawns, check. Minor pieces, check. Bishops of opposite colours, check. It's a draw. =)
Jan-21-12  MindCtrol9: there is not possibility to force a win.black must move his king to try the queen side, and white does the same on his side.this is just a try,but it's a draw.two great players are not going to make unbeliavable mistakes here.the bishops differente colours:bishop and knight vs bishop and knight.what can we expect but a draw.

Sokrates: <WannaBe: Equal pawns, check. Minor pieces, check. Bishops of opposite colours, check. It's a draw. =)> Yes, but why do they keep on playing? Has any of them offered a draw? Either there is a power play going on, or one of them actually thinks, he has chances. As for the latter 28.b4 shows me that Ivanchuk hopes to grab pawns a6 and b5 with his bishop, so maybe he is the one who plays for a win. A personal powerplay between those two is hard to imagine. I think Ivanchuk cannot be reached in that sense. :-)
Jan-21-12  MindCtrol9: had all the sense in the world !!!

Sokrates: Finally, a draw. Perhaps they wanted to cross the 30 moves line. Yes, let's see Carlsen's game (or any other game for that matter).

An Englishman: Good Morning: <William Wellekers> is right, Cmilyte-Lahno has been an incredible fight, and still is, what a Q & 2P vs. 2 Rook ending.

haydn20: I have to wonder why Ivanchuk chose the quiescent Catalan. Aronian equalized rather easily it seems to me.

Jan-21-12  Penguincw: Aronian's draw "wasted time" as it allowed Carlsen to beat Gelfand, and tie for the lead.

Current Top Standings:
=1st Aronian 5/7
=1st Carlsen 5/7
3rd Radjabov 4½/7
=4th Caruana 4/7
=4th Giri 4/7
=4th Ivanchuk 4/7
=4th Nakamura 4/7

Tomorrow's top games:

Topalov vs. Aronian
Caruana vs. Ivanchuk
Giri vs. Gashimov
Radjabov vs. Carlsen
Karjakin vs. Nakamura

Aronian and Carlsen have their hands full playing against Topalov and Radjabov (with black) so that leaves a chance for Caruana, Giri, Ivanchuk, and Nakamura to creep up.
