Bishoprick: A real beaut of a game! A well-deserved and gutsy win.
Jan-25-12  rilkefan: The plan at move 21 with Nh4 looks like it just didn't work. Maybe even back to 16.Qh5 or 13.Ng6. I wonder about 13.Nf5 directly.
Jan-25-12  HectorChess: After 29 moves I prefer blacks position.

Jan-25-12  rilkefan: Stockfish thinks instead of 13.Ng6 white should have played Nhf3, not a vote of confidence in the overall plan. After 21.Nh4 it's evaluating the position as -1, expecting ...c4. And it dislikes 26.Ne4 a lot (-1.8), preferring Qe2 (-0.8 after ...Nd5 27.Qe4 and exchanges).
Jan-25-12  Penguincw: Yesterday, Karjakin upsetted Carlsen, now Kamsky upsets Karjakin. On Friday, will Nakamura beat Kamsky with black, then Van Wely beat Nakamura on Saturday, then on the final day, Van Wely lose to Carlsen?

Gilmoy: Black's plan of <13..b4 14..bxc3> strikes me as hilarious, because Pogo blackfish do it against me when they have no clue. But White's <13.Ng6> is even more bizarre: Black "refutes" it by simply ignoring it, winning tempi. It's tough to crack a solid nut.

I never liked the <17..c5 18.d4> diamond faceoff from either side. I think whomever captures first, is losing :) Na5-c4 to bury the LSB is, of course, a wonderful idea. Black's threat-of-e4 wins a tempo to <Get Vertical> first.

Jan-25-12  wordfunph: "Black is simply better because there are no tactics."

- Gata Kamsky (after 23...Qc6)

Jimfromprovidence: White could have recaptured with 36 Qxd3, with 36...Rxf1+ 37 Qxf1 to follow.

The challenge is to show how black wins from here.

  Shams: <Jimfromprovidence> This is probably not even close but here goes: 37...e4 38.g3 Qd8 39.Qe2 e3 40.Bc1 b2 41.Bxb2 Qd2

Jimfromprovidence: <Shams> I think your line works great, but I was thinking of something different, 37...Qxf4!

The threat is 38...Qxa4 and black has connected passed pawns. I saw the line continuing 38 Qxf4 exf4.

This looks completely winning for black as there is little mobility for white in this position. White's bishop is chained to the a3-c1 diagonal and his king is shut off from g1 and g3.

Shams: <Jim> Yes that looks trivially winning. The Black King can never free itself. Marvelous.

drukenknight: not understanding; black king cannot free, and completely winning for black. Elaboration?

Shams: <druk> I meant the White king can never free itself, sorry.
