Benzol: Surely this game should have been drawn. I also find it amazing that another game played in the same tournament should have ended with the same material balance. See Zhao Xue vs M Illingworth, 2012 The defending side achieved more in this one although why he didn't claim a draw earlier is mysterious to me.
Mar-17-12  Albion 1959: To Benzol. Surely white was within the 50 move rule here and just had enough moves left to force a win ?

Richard Taylor: <Benzol> I was watching the Illingworth agem and he simpllyd didn't claim a draw. At first I thought he had miscalculated the 50 moves but apparently he knew...So it is a mystery.

<Albion 1959> if I might butt - I think <Benzol> meant it was objectively a draw. I played round with it and it is difficult to defend for the R in this case.

What is the story with compute analysis nowadays: is it now known to be a relatively easy win? I suppose it depends on the position.

But, yes, White is well within the 50 move rule here
