Mar-12-12  Sem: Black gives away a bishop and white resigns, five moves in all? What was going on here? Did one of the players become ill? Had white stolen black's wife the night before?

Phony Benoni: What often happens in this situation is that at least one of the moves was recorded incorrectly. At some point, the incorrectly recorded move makes the continuation impossible, so the score is cut off at that point and no further moves are displayed.

For example, White might have played 5.Nf3 instead of 5.Bd3. Then Black's 5...Bg4 is OK. If White actually continued with 6.Qd3, the computer would not recognize that as a possible move because it thinks White's bishop is on d3, and would cut off the score.

Perhaps that exact sequence didn't happen here, but you get the idea. In these situations, corrected scores are sometimes loaded later.

waustad: Either that or he made a blunder the size of the whopper today by Stripunsky (US championship round 1 vs Onischuk). He may have messed up the move order while blitzing out a prepared variation. It could be a case of a messup with the DGT board too, as <PB> suggested.
