Mar-31-12  capablancakarpov: Ding Liren destroying an opponent again playing like Tal... this guy is special indeed.
Mar-31-12  Fish55: Shanglei played a sharp, topical opening that he knows nothing about, based on his moves 10-13. I want to see Liren accomplish something against stronger opposition, and outside China, before getting too excited about him.
Mar-31-12  Penguincw: 24...Rxg6 25.Qxg6+ Kh8 26.Rf7, and black to get mated within 2 moves.

He just needs more international practice. I think he is a Top 10'er and have been watching him for several years now.

whiteshark: <Fish55> and that coming from you!
Apr-01-12  Ladolcevita: Liren is just brilliant!
Indeed, the twice Chinese national champion really should play more international games at any rate...

messachess: Yes, he's really worth being a fan of. Yes, like Tal.

messachess: He should get prestigious invites. If it's a matter of personal finances, then special monies should available somehow.

haydn20: What a beatdown after 10...c5. The side behind in devt. shouldn't get aggressive. Maybe 10...Kh8 gives Black a chance to catch up. China usually supports its athletes & players so maybe there's a political or personal reason the govt. doesn't let him play in big games abroad.

messachess: That would be too bad if it's political. Tragic actually.
Apr-03-12  Ladolcevita: Or maybe he is busy with his study,he is indeed about the age to prepare for the university entrance examination here.

Black is two pieces up but they are stuck on the Queenside and can't help defend the King. Note 18 ... Rf8 19. Qh6+ Kg8 20. g6 Rxf1+ 21. Rxf1 Qe7 22. Rf8+! Qxf8 23. Qh7#, but 18 ... Re7 was also inadequate.

Brilliant double sacrifice on g6, and an early candidate for Best Game of 2012.

Apr-09-12  GITorquemada: Nice game. But when Tal makes a move to sac something you sort of wonder in amazement why. Here, black practically invited white to make that double sac at g6.
Apr-10-12  Oceanlake: If Black can't play 10. ...Nd7, I'd guess Black is already lost.

waustad: I suspect another pop culture reference that goes over my head. Does "ding" mean "thing" in some movie or TV show?
Apr-10-12  think: <waustad> It's from an episode of Seinfeld where a woman keeps going on about her fiance, and how she can't find her baby. Elaine says "maybe the dingo ate your baby" in an Australian accent.

Gregor Samsa Mendel: <waustad>, <think>--The original quote comes from the movie "A Cry in the Dark," starring Meryl Streep, based on a true story of a child disappearance in Australia. After seeing that move, you can't get Streep's repeated insistence that "A dingo took my boy-bee" out of your head.
Apr-10-12  rilkefan: Black has done well in the past after 10...Nc6.

I once tried to understand why black doesn't take on c3 at move 8 using stockfish - if I remember correctly it's fine from a computer perspective, but not perhaps a natural line for a person.

Apr-10-12  rilkefan: Ok, it was actually <Shams> who in response to my question did the analysis I vaguely remembered - see S Halkias vs Morozevich, 2011.

Snehalshekatkar: I didn't understand Black's 8th move. Why that Bishop went back instead of eating the pawn?

HeMateMe: What is the pun based on?
Apr-10-12  Ladolcevita: <Snehalshekatkar>
Then Ba3 Rc1 Qa4 would be my subsequent play as white...anyway I remember it's all theory to withdraw the bishop.

HeMateMe: I understand what happened, but it isn't really a pun. A pun is supposed to ape something in popular culture, or be a tricky play on words.

Great attack, though. Ding ate'em up.
