benjinathan: <If they draw in under 3 hours, they'll play a rapid game too.>

Does the rapid game count in place of the draw? If so, is that the strategy?

Apr-22-12  Penguincw: When did the game start?
Apr-22-12  fokers13: They are at 1h 50m got a while to go.

Apr-22-12  kingsindian2: Don't you think game is in critical position?

amadeus: <benjinathan>, from the official page: "If a game ends within 3 hours in a draw, an additional Rapid Game will be played (which does not count for the overall result)"
Apr-22-12  fokers13: Thought i'd calculate using the time controls plus gave them 30sec/move for no reason=fail.

Nope don't see any major breakthroughs for either side though i guess Black could go for something like Nd6-Nc4 when he can to put some pressure on the queenside.

Apr-22-12  fokers13: Liking Nd6.
Apr-22-12  znsprdx: surely Ne4 before the dubious weakening g4 a4 the Houdini move

  whiteshark: Naiditsch on <22. a4>:

“Maybe the last important moment of the game. Black needs to find now an accurate plan to equalize completely. Few moves are possible: <22...Ne7> should be the main consideration, also <22...Nd6> is not looking badly, as well <22...Rxd1> could be a possible move, it is never wrong to exchange an extra piece...“

Apr-22-12  kingsindian2: dear friends, my small computers says games is drawn. What is your opinion?

  MindCtrol9: I see White with a better game after all,the <22.a4> good,in my opinion.

  whiteshark: he continued: ...

" a bit strange, but hard to find a concrete way to a position where it would be possible to say "Yes, this should be a draw". In case of 22...Ne7 23.a5 c5 24.Na4 Black could be suddenly facing some problems, in case of 23...Rxd1 24.Rxd1 bxa5 25.Ra1 the position is also far away from being a draw...

We have to say, again Kramnik has a bit of bad luck. The position is really looking like a draw, but in fact probably a lot of work is still required to make this draw! Chess is a strange game :) "

Apr-22-12  fokers13: Just b5 for me.No real targets for white.

MindCtrol9: And that was the next move coming. What Aronian is trying to do is to get with one of his Rooks to the other side creating some restrictions meanwhile advance his King. That is waht I figure out here.
Apr-22-12  fokers13: b5 drops a pawn and apparently c5 is indeed best.

Another wondrous derp by yours truly.

Gypsy: If <23...b5>, then a6 and Bc5 looks unpleasant. Instead, <23...c5> looks much better.
Apr-22-12  madhatter5: Na4 here?

Shipov comments are at http://www.chessvibes.com/live-comm...

Apr-22-12  fokers13: Nah just Rxd8 and when Rxd8 Bxa7 sadly.

If a6 Nd5 holds for black.

Apr-22-12  znsprdx: what is this rubbish talk of a draw?simply 24.Rx[R]d8 RxR]d8 25.a5xb6 and White gets the 7th a la Capablanca and wins
