Marmot PFL: The Scotch Four Knight's, a very old line. Wonder what Kramnik has cooked up here.
Apr-24-12  bangkokgambit: Interesting !!

acirce: WHAT? Scotch Four Knights? Barring the really stupid/unsound openings, it's one of the last things I would have expected from Kramnik's side.
Apr-24-12  paavoh: Shipov talks about Kramnik "... post a decent result without resorting to drastic measures..." Is this opening a drastic measure? Aronian must have been surprised, but does White have any advantage in these lines?

botvinnik64: The Scotch Four Knights!!! Great - something to show to my students (1st and 2nd graders!!!)
Apr-24-12  kamalakanta: Kramnik probably cooked up some pasta a la Parisien.....

Ulhumbrus: The Scotch opening. After 5...Bb4 6 Nxc6 bxc6 7 Bd3 two alternatives to 7...d5 are Rubinstein's move 7...0-0 and 7...d6. It remains to be seen whether Aronian will prefer some alternative to 5...Bb4 eg 5...Bc5 or 5...d6

Marmot PFL: <acirce> It could be more of a training/friendly match than a serious contest.

tpstar: <chessgames.com> Thanks for the live broadcast. =)

The Scotch Four Knights is a fine opening choice for White. Kramnik shows his unpredictable side.

Apr-24-12  awalters869: i wonder what kramnik is hoping to achieve in this well worn line? I dont think there are more than a handful of games between these two, that started with e4 ...lots of QGD, Reti's and english openings

Strongest Force: No Berlin Wall? Does this mean we will have a hot war and not a cold war?
Apr-24-12  bangkokgambit: When was the last time Kramnik played 1. e4 on classical game?

Marmot PFL: The most aggressive line seems to be 7 Nxc6 bc6 8 e5. There are not many examples of 7 Qd2.
