Natalia Pogonina: Waiting for the press conference now. Wow! It is very untypical of Vishy to get into time trouble. He looked tense and made a critical mistake. So far we don't know if there were realistic winning chances for White, but it was obvious that in a practical game Anand did have a good probability to convert the advantage.

JenShahade: DRAW! I don't think Black was really better at any point sadly...though of course I was getting excited about his position after ...e4, we realize after ...Qa5 that with queens coming off the board it's an equalization attempt more than a crushing attempt :)

Sneaky: Well, this was certainly not lackluster play! This proves that Gelfand is willing to take chances, even with Black.

<last chance to get some quick qs in for me & Natalia!> Sure I'll take you up on that. It seemed to me that Black was better at some point, but he failed to keep the fire burning. Do you agree? Or would you say Vishy was ultimately in control at all times?

Also, do you think Gelfand is the kind of guy that can fire a third bullet in Texas Holdem, or does he just check the flop when he misses? ;-)

Natalia Pogonina: Ok, let's watch the press conference now. I will be around for a few more minutes. Today's game was probably the most exciting so far. Anand actually had decent winning chances, but at some point his nerves have let him down.

<Sneaky> Black wasn't better at any point. It was a win or draw situation for Anand.

queenfortwopawns: That was rather disappointing. Reminds me of one of the games in the Topalov match when Vishy moved his rook from the seventh just before time control letting Vaselin into the game. Though Gelfand's position was hardly critical, if anyone was winning this game, it was Vishy. Best game so far though.

scormus: Thanks <Vishy and Boris> a great game, a lot of tension and the first one so far I've been able to watch a bit of. Thanks <Natalia and Jen> for super commentary and giving a great lead to the discussion. I have the feeling Boris has been giving it his best shot, Vishy covers up well and maybe will await the right time to hit back hard.

Eyal: Looks like Anand's best winning chance was in the line mentioned by Natalia during the game: <34.d7 (instead of Rc7) Rcc2 35.Rc4! (defending c2 and so prevents a perpetual) Rxc4 36.bxc4 h5 37.Kc1>

and now the king advances.
