Natalia Pogonina: Maybe 9...c5 now, disposing of the weak pawn. Looks ok for Black.

Richard Taylor: Leko thought that Nxb6 was a good move to restrict c5
May-20-12  Ulhumbrus: Perhaps the move 8...Nb6 is a psychological tactic on the part of Anand, a move which Anand has chosen in order to unsettle Gelfand but a move which Anand has prepared as well.

kingscrusher: For a moment there I thought the puzzle of the day was the current position - opposite side castling - an exciting looking position - then I realised it was puzzle of the day and came here to see another quiet Slav position.

Lattas: Is this really played? On the official site Qc2 is last move.
May-20-12  Hesam7: Did Leko just outplay himself in the commentary?!!

May-20-12  Eisenheim: Hopefully this variant will spice it up. How about that Naka-Kamsky match? Granted in the round robin formats the strategy is a bit different than one on ones

Natalia Pogonina: After ♖c1 White created a threat dc ♗c5 and then take on d5. Black has a two main options: cd or c4. I prefer cd.

Why do you prefer ... cxd4 ? It seems to me that ... c4 suffocates White's play.

Honza Cervenka: A positive thing is that we are not going to get symmetric Pawn structure here like in previous games. It can lead to more interesting fight today.

kingscrusher: I think I prefer c4 plan here for black. Idea to castle and later play on the b-file with Bd7 Rb8 and Na4 at some point.

Natalia Pogonina: Grischuk is saying that Vishy might be having problems playing against people who are clearly hating the opponent (like Kasparov and Nakamura).

Natalia Pogonina: <Hesam7> It's more of an illusion. The pawn chain is potentially vulnerable.
May-20-12  Strongest Force: I think black will have more backup on c-file (Q,R or both) befor freeing c5.
May-20-12  GiuocoPianoMan: <NATALIA> Are you saying Galfand hates ANAND?

kingscrusher: Good news - this isn't a symmetrical pawn structure just yet.
May-20-12  Gordon1306: <It can lead to more interesting fight today.> and hopefully no opposite colour bishops ending here. Lets hope theres action today.
May-20-12  Willem Wallekers: Fritz on the other hand prefers 10 ... Nbd7.
May-20-12  MrSpock: <Natalia Pogonina> In a simultaneous performance of several grandmasters in Zürich, Kasparov was running from board to board in order to finish first. Others talked with the kids playing chess ;-)

Natalia Pogonina: <GiuocoPianoMan> Gelfand obviously doesn't.

Natalia Pogonina: <MrSpock> A very telling episode.
May-20-12  Strongest Force: Hmmm...can Gelfy beat Vishy to control of cwfile?
May-20-12  MrSpock: <Natalia Pogonina> A fried was one of the last two playing against K. and was forced to move every second.
