| May-24-12 | | LIFE Master AJ: Ne4. Now Black may be forced to play ...Nb4. |
May-24-12
 | | Strongest Force: <RT> it makes sense that Moro is a fan of Bronstein. They are/were two great free spirits. |
| May-24-12 | | LIFE Master AJ: The problem with the WN on e4 is that it is easily kicked (at the right time) with ...f7-f5. |
May-24-12
 | | waustad: I remember the story of Boris Spassky winning a brilliancy prize for a game that they had played to mate in "home cooking". |

 | | Octavia: Gelfand plays for Israel but he belongs to the glorious USSR tradition of chess & his first language is Russian. : ) |
| May-24-12 | | LIFE Master AJ: OK, here we go with a half hour of commercials ... |

Sometimes I laugh at commercials ... IN RUSSIAN!!! |
May-24-12
 | | Strongest Force: Vishy can protect c-pawn and increase pressure with that Na4 idea |
May-24-12
 | | JenShahade: The reason it is so balanced is there are no obvious pawn breaks for other side. c3 is too weakening and I don't think we'll see either Bxb4 or ...Bxc4. |

 | | Richard Taylor: < Strongest Force: <RT> it makes sense that Moro is a fan of Bronstein. They are/were two great free spirits. > Yes, but he sometimes found Bronstein was a bit tiresome ...but he did say he had many creative ideas. But the match against Botvinnik he didn't win (not by much) was "on his mind" all his life...(not out loud though, so to speak..) I think overall Botvinnik as the better player though. he was arguably the greatest player off that time...although I like Smyslov's games also. |

May-24-12
 | | Ulhumbrus: If Gelfand waits for White to play Bc1, the move Ng5 becomes possible in reply to ...f5 |
| May-24-12 | | LIFE Master AJ: Black has an easy plan: Put his King on c7, Bishop on d5, play ...f7-f5; (to kick that stupid Knight), than start trading wood on the e-file. |
May-24-12
 | | Memethecat: Shirley all chess lovers must be fans of Bronstein's games. |
May-24-12
 | | Strongest Force: Maybe 19.Bxc4 is not a bad idea...or maybe f5 to keep the pressure off of c5 |
May-24-12
 | | waustad: If he doesn't want to take the knight, we are seeing the down side of leaving the pawn on a2 instead of the preparatory a4 move. |
May-24-12
 | | haydn20: Why shouldn't Black play 19...Bxc4 to at least mess up White's pawns a little? |
May-24-12
 | | Gilmoy: We are fans. And stop calling me Shirley. |
| May-24-12 | | The Big Lebowski: <Richard Taylor> Hey RT, I think there was a guy named Bobby Fischer who was pretty good too. |
May-24-12
 | | waustad: <RT>Smyslov's games are so elegant. |
May-24-12
 | | technical draw: For those who don't know, if you want to flip the board go to "review game" above. When you get the new board click on the double triangle in the lower left hand corner of the board and voila! (either that or CG put in another function I'm unaware of). |
May-24-12
 | | Natalia Pogonina: It's also interesting to track how World Chess Champions are getting stripped of their privileges. First they lost the right to choose the challenger and demand a certain prize fund. Then the rematches were abolished. Thirdly, the rule that the WC gets to keep the title in case of a draw was cancelled. Now some blood-thirsty chess fans and players are saying that the WC should start from scratch in the next cycle... And the Women's WC does have to start over already. That's why they keep changing all the time. |
May-24-12
 | | James D Flynn: The position now appears to me to be more comfortable for Black: the dfense of a2 and c2 is very awkward and if Bxb4 White is left with2 Ns against 2 Bs in a postion which Black can easily open. Black can also play Bg4 and force f3 leaving a weakness on e3 for the Black N to exploit. |
May-24-12
 | | Ulhumbrus: <haydn20: Why shouldn't Black play 19...Bxc4 to at least mess up White's pawns a little?> Because it lets go the bishop pair in return for which white has spoiled Black's pawn structure more. Black accepts a lower price in return for an asset - the bishop pair- for which white has extracted from Black a higher price . |
| May-24-12 | | MarkFinan: If white can get Bc1-f4-d6 In here, It should spice things up a little bit.. Really get them Knights working. |
May-24-12
 | | peyote: <LIFE Master AJ> RE your K&P method. All pieces off the board, would White start with g4? |
