HeMateMe: Kramnik can play R-c1 at anytime here and draw. His live pawns on the Q-side will be just as dangerous as white's h pawn.

  Eyal: <Did White lose a tempo with 43. Qg6+ instead of 43. Qxf5 directly?>

Depends really on the question of whether the black king stands better on d6 or c7, which is not so easy to determine.

Jun-16-12  bwarnock: Here's a position to consider:

(which occurs after 45... e4 46. Qf4+ Kb7 47. h4 Qe2 48. Rb1+ Rb5 49. Rxb5+ cxb5 50. Qf7+ Kc6 51. h5 b4 52. h6 b3 53. h7 b2 54. h8Q b1Q+ 55. Kh2)

which would be fun but White appears to be winning/better (for instance 55...Qb7?? 56. Qh6+ wins a queen or 55... Qb6 56.Qe6+ followed by 57 Qxd5+

Marmot PFL: <Eyal> The only thing i like about e4 is the chance to play e3 and open white's king. For that to work he needs the pieces.

Eyal: <Kramnik can play R-c1 at anytime here and draw.>

With the king on c7 it just loses on the spot to Qf4+; but in any case, a rook exchange doesn't lead automatically to a draw.

OBIT: Kramnik's 45...Rc3, intending ...Rf3 looks good. This is heading for a hair-raising finish!

  haydn20: <HeMateMe> 45. ...Rc1?? 46. Qf4+ wins the R.
Jun-16-12  Archswindler: <HeMateMe: Kramnik can play R-c1 at anytime here and draw.>

Not immediately, because of Qf4+

Peligroso Patzer: So typical of Kramnik to persist in playing on when the only reasonable choice is to agree the draw.

It's no wonder that for years his detractors have called him Cast-all-caution-to-the-winds-nik (or something like that) ...

  Eyal: 46.Qe5+! restrains Black's e-pawn.

HeMateMe: I like what Kramnik is doing here. With pieces on the board he can get better King position. If it comes down to a R + p endgame, he can win on the Queenside. Probably still drawn, but I like that fact that the players are having this debate.

Eyal: According to the engines, 48.Qe7+ followed by 49.h6 should give White what seems like a winning advantage.

haydn20: 47...Rc2 with a potential Rxf7 may be marginally better.
