Check It Out: Bartel can rest a little easier now. He's vanquished a very solid player.

Jul-19-12  eternaloptimist: Good job by Bartel of just hanging around waiting for Pono to make some mistakes! He finally got a win! Although it would've been interesting to see what would've happened if Pono would've kept the B pair on the board. Thx for the live coverage CG!!

OBIT: On the official site, the message "xxxx won by adjudication" appears when a player resigns. Yeh, the wrong word is being used, but it's a German site.
Jul-19-12  abuzic: <Check It Out> A message popped up in the live game of the event stating that!! Those remarks were not mine.

haydn20: IMO Pono played several suboptimal moves after move 40 and Bartel simply outplayed him.

Eyal: Funny how things turn out sometimes. Pono scored +2 in the first five rounds, while playing against Leko, Caruana, Karjakin & Kramnik, and started to look like the favorite, having the "easiest" schedule for the remaining rounds. Then he goes and loses with White to the tailender, who scored only half a point so far.

chessgames.com: Thanks to everybody for coming by today. The next round is at 9:15am tomorrow morning; hope to see you then.
Jul-19-12  bubuli55: Bartel wins!
Jul-19-12  eternaloptimist: <Eyal> that is kind of odd. It goes to show that u never know for sure what will happen in some chess tournaments.

OBIT: I take full responsibility for Pono's loss. I am sure I jinxed him at the end of the time control when I commented about how much better White position looked.

karnak64: Nice result for Bartel. Interesting game for the whole always ongoing knights v. bishops in the endgame thing.
