In Nakamura's recent games vs. Carlsen, even with White, his goal seems to be first of all not to lose rather than to win (Nakamura vs Carlsen, 2012, Nakamura vs Carlsen, 2012) - which is understandable considering their record.

Jul-29-12  SirRuthless: Carlsen is the best in the world so the onus is on him to win their matchups. To draw Magnus is a success. In 2012 Magnus has been unable to beat Nakamura in classical chess. I wonder why??
Jul-29-12  frogbert: beating a 2770-rated player who is happy to draw having the white pieces is nearly impossible. i think it makes good sense not to take unnecessary risk for carlsen against a poisonous, strong player like naka.
Jul-29-12  SirRuthless: I think you are correct. Magnus cannot simply boss Nakamura anymore like he used to so he is content to play for the draw with white. I think Nakamura will be content to draw Carlsen in classical for the foreseeable future and vice versa.
