Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-07-12  paavoh: Laznicka was trying desperately to win this match, it seems.
Aug-10-12  harish22: Qc5 was setting up a nice trap. 37 .. Bd4 + 38.Qd4 Rd4 39. Bf6+ .. wins material.

Black snuffed white's chances completely by exchanging the queens with 37.Qa7. wondered what would have happened had black continued with 37. Ba1. Guess as long as the queens were on board, white had a puncher's chance.

Richard Taylor: Without using a computer it looks as though 37. ... Bxa1 loses to 38. Qf8+ Kc7 39. Bg3+ wins the black Queen at least.

  Richard Taylor: No it may only be a draw as there is then 39. ... e5 40. Qf8+ Kc7 41. Qc5+ etc

Richard Taylor: Shirov's Qa7 was consistent as it wins. Otherwise there could be a draw. Shirov showed a good defense here. His opponent was on the attack but Black's defence seemed to hold. Sharp game.
