Mar-06-13  Once: <mmousez> Not the world's greatest pun, to be sure! Here's my theory...

"Ready when you are" is something that you sometimes hear at the beginning of a game. It's a way of saying "shall we start the clocks?". Perhaps a bit of politeness before hostilities commence.

As to the game itself, it's a contest between a classic broad pawn centre and a more hypermodern "sniping from a distance" approach. Today, ze pawns win. But not always.

Mar-06-13  SugarDom: "Ready Wang Yue are?"

Is that a lisp? or you got sore in the mouth?

Mar-06-13  goodevans: A poor pun, but probably not the worst ever. If it had been then that would at least have given the pun some distinction. ;)

At least the game was quite interesting.

Mar-06-13  Abdel Irada: <If it had been then that would at least have given the pun some distinction.>

Maybe we should develop some equivalent of the Golden Turkey awards given to movies so bad they become classics of cinematic ineptitude.

It could even be added as a new category for the next Caissars. ;-)

Mar-06-13  master of defence: What happens after 35...Qf7?
Mar-06-13  Garech: Very interesting game; Dizdarevic plays some sharp stuff.

And hey! I liked the pun!! :D

-Garech

Mar-06-13  morfishine: <master of defence> On your question: <What happens after 35...Qf7?>

After <36.h5> White exchanges down to a completely won ending

Mar-06-13  Abdel Irada: <morfishine>: That does win, although I expect Wang would interpolate 36. Qxf7†, Rxf7 before playing 37. h5.
Mar-06-13  chinokoli: What happens after 35...Rf8?
Mar-06-13  rogl: <chinokoli: What happens after 35...Rf8?> 36. ♗xg6+ ♕xg6 37. ♕xf8 and good night.

FSR: I liked the pun, too. It gave me a chuckle. And it's nowhere near the worst. That would be the Caissar-winning "Drawma Queen." Akobian vs The World, 2011

AylerKupp: <FSR> A split opinion. I also liked this pun but I looooved "Drawma Queen". It was short and to the point (not an easy thing to do) given the way that game ended. My only regret is that I didn't think of it.
Mar-06-13  kevin86: The little pawn move will lead to the big pawn move,h5. Black has no defense.

FSR: <AylerKupp> Having reflected further on it, I can see that there is a lot to be said for "Drawma Queen." Black <dramatically> sacrificed a <queen> for a pawn, but all that did was effect a <draw>, so all that excitement seemed overblown, as one would expect from a <drama queen>.
Mar-06-13  YetAnotherAmateur: I'm not convinced that h5 can't be defended:
34. h4 Qf7

Now what?
35. h5 Qxf6
36. gxf6 Rf8
37. Bxf6+ Kh6 and when the dust settles it looks like white ends up with an extra pawn but can't defend it from the black king.

35. Qxf7+ Rxf7
36. h5 Rg7 and I'm having a hard time seeing an attack that can't be met.

35. Bxg6+ Qxg6
and black can trade down to R vs 5 scattered pawns and a better-positioned king.

What am I overlooking?

AylerKupp: <FSR> But doesn't overblown excitement fit the definition of a drama queen perfectly? That's one of the reasons why I think that the pun is very appropriate.

  FSR: <AylerKupp> Right, I agree.
Mar-06-13  Jambow: wang yue = when you not hard and yet still punny.
Mar-06-13  ajile: Yue Wang?

Where's my bro Lurch when you need him??

Mar-06-13  ajile: Isn't this also known as the Owens Defense or English Defense?

Black tempts White to build the big pawn center and then attacks it. Primarily e4. I think Tony Miles played this once with insane complications after an early ..f5!

Mar-06-13  Mudphudder: Garbage Defense, IMO. Queen out into the middle ranks on the fifth move? (not counting center counter openings of course...)
Mar-06-13  ajile: < Mudphudder: Garbage Defense, IMO. Queen out into the middle ranks on the fifth move? (not counting center counter openings of course...)>

Yes Black gets more behind in development as White is kicking the queen around. The queen sortie is not however a normal move in the Owens proper as far as I know.

Mar-06-13  Abdel Irada: Here's the thing about this pun: If I am not mistaken, Yue is actually pronounced something like <y-weh>.
