luzhin: Amazingly abrupt conclusion: White can avoid immediate mate only by giving up a whole rook.

Including rapid/exhibition games: Alexandra Kosteniuk beat Yifan Hou 4 to 3, with 6 draws.>

Oct-20-12  znsprdx: Cute point is that b7 is a poison pawn which is a type of common oversight for the less than 1600 player - and sometimes even grandmasters :) judging by a recent host of pretty simple oversights at the 2700+ level

13.Nc5 the third time this knight moves: the real point behind White's loss (despite having the Bishop pair and Black's isolated 'd' pawn.)

...Rc8 14.Nxb7? Qb6

A second poison pawn theme is 19...Qxg3? which could plausibly lead to the following :) 20. Bxc6N Rxc6B 21.Rf3 'iff'' Qc7 (?) 22.Nb4 R[c]e6 23.Qf1 Kg7(?) and here it comes: 24.Rxf6N Rxf6R 25.Qxf6R+ Kxf6Q 26.Nd5+ Kg6 27.Nxc7Q

By the way please notice how much easier it is to follow this sequence of play by employing a feature of 'Descriptive' [English] notation which has been lost by the use of algebraic notation. One can 'see' the thread of piece exchanges and captures. I believe that for many players this would surely facilitate the following of a game - and if nothing else assist in developing one's visualization capabilities. My early attempt at this was flawed e.g. Bx[N]c6 but arguably maybe BxNc6 could still be preferred. However I finally concluded Bxc6N would be necessary in light of the demands of digital programming.

Oct-20-12  howardroark: I like Kosteniuk she is quite the multifaceted chess queen guess more credit to her for handling the pressure well -
